16 September 2020 - 16: 04

This morning, the Councilor for Culture of the Dénia City Council, Raúl David García, the director of Marina de Denia, Gabriel Martínez and the sculptor Toni Marí have presented the awards to the winners of the II edition of the exhibition "Sculptures facing the sea".

"The sample has given a lot of life to the port and Dénia during the summer and, above all, it has had a lot of diffusion, both nationally and internationally. This year it was a challenge to do it with all the problems we are facing, but we are for the art, the artists and for our region. For all this I want to express my gratitude to the entire group here present ", said Gabriel Martínez.

The first prize of this edition, 1.500 euros, has been for Miguel Ángel Miguel and his sculpture "Lliure", a wooden whale that this time represents the search for freedom. The second prize, 1.000 euros, went to Andrés Escrivá and his "Initiation Silhouette of a space resting on the sea", a blurred image of the landscape of Marina de Dénia. And the third prize, 500 euros, for Tomás Sivera and his work "Faceless Sailors", which expresses the tension and concern of the sailors' relatives before their return.

The president of the Jury, Toni Marí, wanted to thank Marina de Dénia for “Give up this unbeatable space. And also having Joan Castejón, Modesto Marí and Nicolás Merle on the jury, since they provide us with the necessary knowledge and sensitivity. Also to the artists for their work, which I know they do very well. I can only say, until next year ".

For his part, Joan Castejón, has assured that "This exhibition is already consolidated and this year it is indisputable that it has appreciated". In the same sense, Modesto Marí has expressed himself, “Thanks to Marina de Dénia for lending this new gallery that we artists have found, with a very interesting projection, for the site and for the people who see it. Next year should continue with more people ". And, Nicolás Merle has said that “history and culture come together to cover the capital of the Marina Alta. What in its day was a world reference with the theme of ships flourishes again. And he wanted to thank the involvement, for the second year, of the Dénia City Council". In this sense, the Councilor for Culture has commented that “As we said at the opening, the most grateful are us, since you occupy a space that we do not have in Dénia for modern art. Completing the work we do in the Dénia City Council with your contribution is essential for this city. I hope that next year there will be no space to put up works ”.

This sample, which can be seen at the Ribera Wharf of the Dénia Marina and Tourist Port, will run until the end of September. In this edition, the catalog with the explanation of the works can be downloaded through a QR code, so that all visitors will be able to know the meaning of the sculptures.

Eight artists have participated in the exhibition: Miguel Ángel Miguel, María Eugenia Vázquez-Gundin, Salvador Mollà, Andrés Escrivá, Juan Caravaca, Tomás Sivera, José Antonio Ahuir and Marie-Louise Kersbergen.
