The Director of Philately and Institutional Relations of Correos, Nuria Lera, presented this morning in the Plenary Hall of the Dénia Town Hall the stamp dedicated to the writer Maria Ibars Ibars. The mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, and the president of the Institut d'Estudis Comarcals de the Marina Alta (IECMA) and archivist of Dénia, Rosa Seser, representatives of the two institutions that supported the initiative of the Philatelic and Numismatic Association of Calp, petitioner of the stamp.
A run of 72.000 units
The stamp belongs to the series 'Escritoras', it is rectangular and shows an image of the author together with three of her most recognised works written in Valencian: L'últim serf, Poemes de Penyamar and Vides planes. Correos has produced a print run of 72.000 stamps, with a price of 3 euros each. They can be purchased at Correos offices, through Correos Market or by contacting the Philatelic Service at atcliente.filatelia@correos.com.
The Director of Philately and Institutional Relations of Correos, Nuria Lera, has stated that the official presentation of the stamp dedicated to Maria Ibars in Dénia "is the closing of the circle, since the city was her muse and source of inspiration."
Rosa Seser has praised the figure of Maria Ibars, "a pioneer in poetry and narrative in Valencian" who fell into oblivion for decades after her death in 1965. It was not until 1992 when one of the city's institutes took her name and put the spotlight on the figure of the writer, which is also claimed by writers and cultural institutions in the region. The Valencian Language Academy has also contributed to the dissemination of the author by declaring her Writer of the Year 2024 and organizing, in collaboration with the Dénia City Council, various activities to publicize her life and work.
A tribute with international projection
Now Correos is joining in this effort by issuing a stamp that allows Maria Ibars to travel and become known around the world.
However, the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, has claimed that "this tribute should not stop here: now it is our turn to move forward and not stop highlighting the great work of Maria Ibars, keeping her memory alive and her work very much alive, by reading it."
Honorary postmarking ceremony
The event ended with the honourable postmarking, in which the president of the Philatelic and Numismatic Association of Calp, Josep Ivars, also participated.
The presentation was attended by councillors from the Municipal Corporation, members of philatelic associations from the Marina Alta and representatives from the IES Maria Ibars in Dénia.
