The Dénia Neighborhood Participation Council held a new session on March 31. Representatives of the neighborhood associations of Baix la Mar, Bassetes, Deveses, Montgó, and Portelles, as well as members of the Dénia City Council's political groups. This event addressed both pending issues and current issues that directly affect the quality of life of the municipality's residents.
Christine Huc, spokesperson for the Federation of Neighborhood Associations, began the meeting by reviewing some of the issues that had been pending since the last meeting. Among the most notable were the long-awaited installation of a mobile vehicle inspection station in Dénia, the tender for the next public transport service, and traffic issues on Miguel Hernández Avenue. Concerns about port lighting, already addressed at the previous Council meeting, were also discussed.
Regarding current issues, the meeting focused on the increase in wastewater rates, which has raised concerns among the public. The future use of the land belonging to the railway workers' houses was also discussed, with the proposal to allocate it to affordable rental housing.
Regarding waste collection, the City Council was urged to take effective measures to manage the eco-park and improve recycling rates, with the goal of reducing the fee paid by residents. It was emphasized that increasing the recycling rate would allow for lower bills, which would benefit the entire population.
Representatives from Baix la Mar, Antonio Arbona, and from Les Portelles, Salvador Cervera, presented several proposals to improve coexistence and the quality of the urban environment. Among the most notable suggestions were stricter regulations on the excessive use of tables and chairs on terraces and a ban on alcohol consumption in public spaces to prevent the generation of associated waste. Furthermore, the need to strengthen surveillance against possible illegal dumping by motorhomes was raised.
For its part, the Dénia City Council presented information on the investments planned in the 2025 municipal budget. The Councilor for Territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, detailed the Bosc de Diana project, an ambitious plan scheduled to begin implementation in the fall. Neighborhood associations expressed their "excitement" about this project, which promises to be a significant transformation for the city.
Finally, in the section of requests and questions, from the association of Les DevesesGenoveva Chiché insisted on the creation of new parking spaces in the area, the deficiencies of some buses, and the reinforcement of campaigns against the abandonment of cigarette butts by smokers in public roads and dunes. Marilín Bertó, from the Les Bassetes Association, requested police presence in the beaches and the completion of pending repairs in the park, in addition to improvements to the Social Center.
Initiatives such as planting more trees in the greenway, the installation of fountains and other improvements that would contribute to strengthening urban infrastructure and the well-being of citizens.
Well, let's see if they can really solve the problems that arise, and if these associations are more fortunate than the complaints from the neighbors, who have been suffering for years. It is obvious that, in the absence of direct and constant control, unless a complaint is filed, in certain areas, some establishments do whatever they want, even though the ordinance makes clear the "to what extent they can disturb," "how much space they can occupy," and when shouting, yelling, etc. are not allowed... e.g., Title 4, point 3 of the ordinance ** It is not permitted to make noise that disturbs the rest of the neighbors. Rest times are set, but it is only "written in the ordinance" and is not continuously monitored, and depending on the issue, it persists over time.
How beautiful everything is a rainbow and pink clouds.
Politicians selling smoke and mirrors as always, just to get you to vote for them, and four years of Nescafé pay. And, yes, the first thing they'll do is raise their salaries, for political dignity. Just like the man who sits his ass on the mayor's throne did.
