08 2019 April - 01: 03

The City of Dénia has entered, for the funds of the Municipal Archive, a series of unique documents that are part of the history of the first years of the 20th century in the city. This is 25 copies of the newspaper La Palabra, of the year 1930.

This collection was bound by the director himself and has always been kept in the family. His son Julio Serrano Pons, known as "Julio the printer", jealously guarded the legacy of his father in a drawer of the printing press. His sons Juan and Rafaela Serrano Paris continued to keep their grandfather's newspapers. Now this collection will be kept in the municipal archive. The donation is part of the agreement signed between the family of Julio Serrano and the City of Dénia.

The Word It was a newspaper directed by Dianense Juan Serrano Patrocinio, which was always linked to the world of journalism and political activity, being mayor of Dénia in the years 1913 and 1921. In addition to President of the Workers' Society of Dénia and organizer of the Dianense Republican Youth. In the field of journalism Juan Serrano collaborated in the newspaper "El Pueblo", by Blasco Ibáñez; in "El Heraldo de Dénia". The year 1909 collaborated in the foundation of the magazine "Gérmenes" of Alicante. He also directed "La Provincia" the 1918 year, the "La Voz del Comercio" and "La Palabra" which would be his most personal publication.

The newspaper began its publication 12 April of 1930 with the name The word. Independent newspaper. Defender of the moral and material interests of the district of Denia. But in the month of June for the political interests of its director changed the subtitle by "Organ of the Republican-Autonomous Party of the District of Denia."

The wording was in Dénia, Marques de Campo street, 27 on the main floor, although it was printed in Alicante and distributed to subscribers.
