The financing problems of the port of Dénia: Cs will demand the million and a half euros that it is owed

November 18 from 2021 - 14: 40

This morning took place in the maritime station de Baleària, in Dénia, a press conference with which Citizens wanted to put on the table the lack of investment in the port of the city, despite the fact that the law requires a game that is not being complied with. In this, headed by the Orange Party Trustee, Ruth Merino, and in which Tony Woodward, deputy for Economy, Finance and Budgets in Corts, Mamen Peris, deputy spokesperson, and the Dianenses councilors Susana Mut and Fanny Schwamb, The registered amendment has also been presented to require that the port of Dénia be considered an autonomous port.

It is one of the main objectives of the last months of Citizens in the Valencian Community, to achieve that ports such as Dénia are recognized as autonomous ports. And not only for this party, but already in July 2020 a request was made by the Dianense city council supported by the rest of the groups in order for said recognition to be made effective. However, almost a year and a half later, everything remains the same, without any movement on the part of the Consell to recognize it as such. That is why Cs will insist that this situation be resolved and Dénia can enjoy the advantages offered by being an autonomous port.

But what does this change mean? Much. The port would become self-sufficient, allowing it to reinvest 100% of its income. To date, Dénia only has the obligation to reinvest 40% of the income, so it would be a large increase aimed at improving the facilities.

Cs will demand that the money not invested be returned

And in that 40% is the other problem that the party has made public, because in Dénia it is not being fulfilled. "It's a joke," Merino said about the situation in the city. Failure to comply with this item to reinvest has caused the port to stop entering € 1.475.313 to improve its status. "A million something that they do not give us back to the neighbors," the spokeswoman for the municipal group in Dénia, Susana Mut, indignantly pointed out.

Of the € 4.014.765 that entered the port in 2019, only a total of € 130.593 was invested, according to Ciudadanos. According to the law, they should reinvest € 1.605.906, 40%, so the port of Dénia has lost € 1.475.313.

Disappearance of the departure for the port of Dénia from the Generalitat's budgets

But the problems with financing do not end there. The budgets of the Generalitat Valenciana contemplated a heading to "New Investments, maintenance and improvements in the Port of Dénia" for 2021, which was 1.002.390. This, according to Ciudadanos, has completely disappeared. "To a general surprise, this nominative item was eliminated throughout this year and will not be reinvested in the Port of Denia in 2021, again in breach of the Law of the Generalitat itself approved in 2014".

In the budget project of the Generalitat Valenciana for the year 2022, the item for investments in the Port of Dénia is included again, specifically for the Extension of the Bocana with 2.085.350,00, highlights the deputy Tony Woodward, of the that only 1.000.000,00 will be invested this year, once again in breach of the Generalitat's own law. "This investment criterion is not being applied to the Port of Dénia, where not only is it depriving itself of the investments established by law, but also the few investments that were made are not being executed either."

For all this, the training will present both the amendment in Les Corts and a motion in the Dénia City Council with which to continue demanding the self-financing of the port and that the items marked by law in relation to their income are met.
