12 September 2019 - 15: 53

Mayor, Vicent GrimaltAnd the Councilor for Sports, Raúl García de la Reina, have reported at a press conference that the covered pavilion of the municipal sports center has suffered very significant structural damage that makes it impossible to carry out any activity during the 2019/2020 academic year that is now beginning.

The first mayor has explained that "the roof of the installation has been torn off, one of the walls has fallen, the pavement of the pavilion is up and windows and glass have been broken as a result of a tornado that has moved during the dawn of Thursday from the beach of Albaranas (Marines), at the height of Ferdinand restaurant, inland, to the municipal sports center, affecting the Tennis Club, the CdT and private homes in its path".

Grimalt has indicated that "the classes of the great majority of Municipal Sports Schools and the training of the clubs cannot be developed in the pavilion during this season". Now, municipal officials will manage with the municipalities of neighboring towns that have covered pavilions the possibility that schools and Dianense clubs use their facilities.

Performance evaluation

Regarding the arrangement of the pavilion after the destruction, the mayor said that "Municipal technicians are assessing whether it is worth rebuilding, which would take a lot of time and money, or it is preferable to make a new one more suited to the needs of the city.", since the current one was built about forty years ago.

Regarding the rest of the elements of the municipal sports center (rugby field, running track and pediment), the Councilor for Sports has indicated that they will open to the public once all the plates of the pavilion are secured and the safety of the users is guaranteed.

To prevent personal injury, access to the sports center has been closed and citizens are requested not to approach the surroundings.

Raúl García de la Reina has also reported the transfer of the offices of the Department of Sports to the municipal offices of the Espai de Participació de Les Portelles, in Pare Pere street, 17, starting next Monday.

Weather part for insurers

Finally, Vicent Grimalt thanked the spokespersons of the municipal groups for the support offered during this episode of red alert and recalled that any citizen can go to the town hall from next week and ask for free the weather part of these days to present it to your insurance company if you must make any claim.
