The victims of the bombing that Dénia suffered 80 years ago will be remembered forever in a commemorative plaque

Between the 13 of August of 1937 and the 28 of March of 1939, 32 people lost their lives in Dénia victims of the bombings that fell on the city. We were in the middle of the Civil War. 80 ago years of the worst of them, which left on the street La Vía a total of 14 civilians dead.

Eight decades after those tragic moments, which marked the darkest episodes in the recent history of the city, these 32 people and their families have been honored with a plaque that will forever remember what happened in that tragic time.

Last Friday, 26 in October, a commemorative plaque was discovered on the side façade of the Social Center in an emotional act that was scheduled for the 18 day, coinciding with the date of the bloodiest bombing and that finally had to be moved from date to date. Inclement weather.

The plaque was discovered by José Caselles Ronda, a neighbor of 92 years of age and son of José Caselles Cerdá, one of the people killed in the bombing of La Vía street that 18 October of 1938, at 44 years of age.

The mayor of Dénia intervened in the act, Vicent Grimalt, who recalled that the last bombing, that of 1939, took place "with the republican army already surrendered in Madrid and just a few days before the end of the contest was declared". It was precisely Seser who was in charge of guiding, after the homage ceremony, the opening of the exhibition Dénia, war temps and repressió, 1936-1939.
