The Spanish navies join the Libera project and the Reina Sofía Foundation in their fight against rubbish

05 June 2020 - 11: 34

As part of World Environment Day, LIBERA and the Reina Sofía Foundation announce their continuity, fighting together against rubbish. This is confirmed by the renewal of the agreement between both organizations that have signed today, a milestone that allows both entities to continue with the exchange of knowledge, as well as a reinforcement of their lines of work in collaboration, to develop joint actions within of the axes of the LIBERA Project, such as science, prevention and participation. Since 2018, both entities collaborate closely to protect marine environments from being affected by garbage.

Thanks to this renovation, LIBERA and the Reina Sofía Foundation will also continue to share knowledge to generate a greater impact on the environmental awareness of the recreational nautical sector on the Spanish coast. To this end, this collaboration will also join efforts to continue raising awareness among the sector, through different materials and training that achieve the adherence of pleasure boats and spreading campaigns among its collaborators to raise awareness against rubbish by contributing their experience and knowledge in the nautical field, as was possible last year.

This year, LIBERA and the Reina Sofía Foundation seek to expand their network of entities adhering to this campaign, thanks to an agreement with the Spanish Federation of Sports and Tourist Port Associations (FEAPDT), which will allow the alliance to spread its environmental purpose to the more than 170 associated ports throughout Spain. In 2019, this joint work achieved the collaboration of 53 entities related to the sea in the Balearic area, such as different marinas, diving clubs, as well as charter companies, with the aim of ensuring that all those who go out to Sea do it with the utmost care. "Our ports become one more ally to tackle this problem through awareness, prevention and participation," said Gabriel Martínez, president of the Feapdt.
