La Sella Golf restores an 18th century windmill

November 17 from 2017 - 06: 40

The restoration of the windmill located in the field of La Sella Golf It is already a reality. Last 11 day in November, coinciding with the celebration of the 27 anniversary of the inauguration of the golf course, finally its shovels returned to turn and pump water to the old raft.

A few months ago, since La Sella Golf Restoration work began on this mill, located within the golf course, between holes 4 and 5 of the course Gregal, in order to preserve the traditional architectural heritage of the region of La Marina Alta.

The windmill restored in the route of La Sella Golf is of the multi-blade type, a system that the Valencians who emigrated to America in the early eighteenth century imported to the entire state.

According to the consulted archaeologists, it is possible that it was built by order of Mr. Ferrando, owner at the end of the 18th century of the whole farm that is now known as Alquería de Ferrando, on which he built, besides the windmill and the raft to supply water to the farm, the farmstead, the hermitage and the corral where the service that raised the animals lived and from where he managed a muscatel farm of more than twelve hectares.

In the late nineteenth century, as a result of industrialization, phylloxera, new energy systems and the abandonment of agriculture, the mills lost their function and were abandoned. Nowadays only 30 mills are maintained in the region: 5 in Dénia, 12 in Jávea, 2 in Pedreguer, 3 in Gata de Gorgos, 2 in Teulada, 3 in Benissa, 1 in Llíber and 1 in Calp and now in La Sella Golf.

Mara Bañó, president of La Sella Golf Resort, expresses her satisfaction "For fulfilling the obligation to maintain our hallmarks. Let us enjoy the advantages of our century, modernize our systems and our resources, but at the same time preserve our legacy for future generations, because they are part of who we are".
