The intervention in the castle will allow "to have the experience of the space that was at some point"

11 September 2015 - 00: 02

There is no start date yet, but the project is already drafted and ready to be executed. In fact, the Local Government Board agreed on Wednesday to start the bidding process for the works to speed up the execution time as much as possible.

We talk about the intervention in the castle which can be carried out thanks to the 1% Cultural subsidy granted each year by the Ministry of Public Works. Thanks to this help, Dénia will be able to rehabilitate the access stairs to the Palau Vell and recover the upper part of the palau.

The architects Julià Esteban Chapapría and Elisa Moliner Cantos, with the collaboration of the municipal archaeologist Josep Antoni Gisbert, have been in charge of drafting the project that was presented to the press on Thursday morning and to the general public in the afternoon, more detailed way, in the Castle.

The main objective of this action will be to recover the T-shaped staircase, a construction that we can currently only find in Dénia and El Escorial; and link the Esplanade of the Governor with the upper part of what was the Palau Vell. As Elisa Moliner explained, "visitors will be able to have the experience of the space that was at some point touring the original union of both spaces".

To carry out the performance, traditional techniques will be used and will be based on the information transmitted by the construction itself, using the remains of the staircase that exist scattered around it and the materials most similar to the originals, calcareous stone.

Over the years, the staircase has gradually disappeared until it is in its current state, practically unusable by visitors. That is why, when a first assessment of the possible actions in the Castle was carried out, they determined that the rehabilitation of the staircase was the most transcendental to value it and return it to its original use.

Although the start of the action is conditioned by the Ministry of Public Works, Julià Esteban recalled that the economic endowment is in charge for 2015, so they understand that before the end of this year the money must arrive. Once the works have been tendered, they estimate that they can be completed within a period of 10 months from the start of the works.

The total cost of the works amounts to 891.770 euros, 666.827 from the Ministry of Public Works and 229.943 from the Dénia City Council.
