The war between Russia and Ukraine, the closing focus of the spring edition of the Dénia Festival de les Humanitats

29 March 2023 - 15: 18

The spring edition of Dénia Humanities Festival ended yesterday with a round table about the war between Russia and Ukraine, a conflict that “concerns us all.” Under this approach, the Ukrainian writer in the Russian language and former president of PEN Ukraine, Andrei Kurkov, presented his opinions and reflections; the journalist, analyst and correspondent of El País in the USSR, Russia and the post-Soviet space (1982-2016), Pilar Bonet; the diplomat, Spanish ambassador to Germany (2012-2016) and permanent representative of Spain to the European Union, Pablo García-Berdoy and Joseph Ramoneda, director of La Maleta de Portbou and academic director of the Denia Festival of the Humanities.

A war that, as the mayor of Dénia pointed out at the beginning of the act, "continues, more than a year after it began, massacring innocent people, devastating an entire country and its illusions. A war that concerns us all and before which we must position ourselves and not stand in profile”.

Cristina Sellés, vice president of the Dénia Creative City of Gastronomy Foundation that coordinates the festival, was satisfied "with the consolidation of a creative, innovative and modern festival that gives a quality boat to the cultural offer of Dénia". Sellés recalled that the Foundation was born to promote public-private collaboration in the development of Dénia projects as a UNESCO Creative City, highlighting two: the Dénia Festival of the Humanities and the D * na Festival , which this year is organized on September 30 and October 1, as announced.

"The consolidation of these two festivals, which have placed Dénia on the international map, demonstrates the business commitment to carry out city projects that are so necessary to guarantee the quality of the tourist destination," he added.

President of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, spoke of the shipping company's support for the DFH, "not only as a sponsor, but as an organizing entity and full participant in the project". Utor trusts that Dénia will become a "center of thought", as in the XNUMXth century, when the Dénia taifa was a benchmark for debate, study and the flourishing of culture and thought.

The Dénia Festival of the Humanities is organized by the Dénia City Council, the Generalitat Valenciana and Baleària and coordinated by the Dénia Creative City of Gastronomy Foundation of the Valencian Community.

The academic direction of the festival corresponds to La Maleta de Portbou. In addition, business associations collaborate CEDMA and AEHTMA, the 'la Caixa' Foundation, the Valencian public universities and the UNED, cultural associations of Dénia and the region and business associations of the Valencian Community. The spring edition has had the collaboration of the Valencian Regional Press Association (APCV) in the organization of the Roots Forum of companies committed to the territory.

After this 'half year' of the event, Dénia is preparing to celebrate the second edition of the Festival of the Humanities from October 26 to 28, 2023 with new debates and presentations on the theme "Look back to know where we are going".

Shame that the war in Ukraine CAUSED BY AMERICAN INTERESTS AND FOSTERED BY CULTS is the end of the Festival.
We need a government that does not involve us in those commitments.
From the Democratic Left we want a Spain in the style of the former Yugoslavia.
    A Democratic Republic.
A decentralized country with a nationalized economy, outside of NATO, the euro and the Paris Agreements.
    A plural and diverse country.
    No Federal Republics.
