The Generalitat sees fit to ask now to go to Phase 2

May 27 from 2020 - 09: 59

After the controversial decision of the Ministry of Health not to request to go to Phase 2 to the departments that already completed the 2 weeks of evaluation, as in the case of the Marina Alta, they have now announced that they will request to reach the new de-escalation phase next week. At this time, the infection figures are identical if not slightly worse than the day on which the aforementioned decision was made not to de-escalate the 10 most advanced departments. The only thing that seems to have changed is that on this occasion all the health departments of the Community can go to Phase 2 hand in hand.

The Marina Alta has had to endure one more week in Phase 1, which has dealt a severe blow to the businesses of the region that depend on reaching the next phase to resume their activity. However, now everything points to the fact that we meet the requirements for de-escalation, although in terms of data from the Ministry in our department nothing has changed.

The lack of capacity of the majority of the departments of the Community to carry out PCR tests was what initially forced them to stay in Phase 0, leaving only 10 of them to advance, according to what the Ministry of Health made public last day. Despite this, a week later they managed to add the rest of the departments to those that were already in Phase 1 and allowed displacement within the province, somewhat counterproductive if the idea was to continue de-escalation by departments and not provinces as they suggested.

Now, to decide that they would not ask to go to Phase 2, they shielded themselves from the fact that a couple of the first departments had slightly worsened the numbers of infections, while they again forgot about those that were improving, such as the Marina Alta. A decision that has been widely criticized by the residents and businessmen of the affected regions that have best fought this time against the pandemic.

But apparently, in the absence of the Ministry's decision, the Generalitat will allow the entire community to pass to Phase 2 on June 1.
