The 2019/2020 citrus campaign was going to be one of the best in recent years, as announced by the Valencian Farmers' Association, and also confirmed by one of the main citrus entrepreneurs in the region, Juan Antonio Miñana: "The campaign was being one of the best of the last twenty years". But the collection is not going as expected, the protests in the countryside throughout Spain also reach the Marina Alta.
Unfair competition from countries such as Morocco, which are not obliged to follow the strict phytosanitary measures of Spanish farmers but instead can sell their product here, together with the catastrophic consequences of storm Gloria, have seriously damaged Valencian farmers.
