Register now to the Writing Workshop Parentheses in Denia at the EDES Academy

19 September 2017 - 10: 45

This October in Academy EDES have prepared their third Writing Workshop Parentheses in Denia. In the two previous editions the course completed its twelve seats, this edition still has some vacancies.

The Writing Workshop Parentheses is a space and a time where students will become familiar with the basic techniques to develop stories that imagine and mature their own personal style.

Each week a topic will be studied and the student will write an exercise (short story, poem, article, etc.), where the acquired theoretical knowledge will be put into practice. The exercise will be discussed at the next meeting.

In order to enable the student to develop the resources learned in the workshop and to produce exciting and credible stories, they will, among other things, deal with the following issues:

The main conflict: the problem to transfer to the paper the history thought. Why in writing it, and being so different from the imagined, we despair believing that we will never be able to achieve what we want?

Learn how to build a story, how to build a character, an inner or outer atmosphere, intrigue, plot, tone, dialogues, etc.

Review differences when choosing a narrator: first, third person and more possibilities. To study how, depending on the stories, the principles and ends of a story can be elaborated. To approach the techniques of the intimate journal, the biography, the novel, the scripts, the microcuento and other genres.
To train oneself in the criticism, as much of the own texts as of the others.

The meetings, in the Writing Workshop, will have a duration of two hours: the first will be used in a theoretical explanation; the second, in the reading and criticism (by the students and the teacher) of the exercises performed by the attendees during the week.

Support books will be recommended: style books, dictionaries, manuals of doubts and language errors, etc. Readings from some authors, especially contemporaries, will be suggested (there will be a book loan system).

Probably at the end of the course they will carry out, as in previous years, a literary trip to a significant city, Spanish or foreign, for having been born or lived in it important writers or writers.
