A green tide has filled the basement of the town hall in Dénia this Thursday. Education returns to the streets, filling the Plaza de la Constitució with banners and shouts crying out for multilingual education, for better working conditions for teachers and against cuts in classrooms.
The policies of the current Department of Education face rejection en bloc from the teachers and students of Dénia, as well as in many parts of the Community. Thousands of teachers have taken to the streets to protest throughout the Valencian territory in what is the first major educational mobilization in the last 12 years.
Dénia schools go on strike
The strike on May 23 has also taken place in Dénia, where hundreds of teachers and students have also gathered under the council proclaiming better working conditions, saying no to cuts, yes to Valencian and no to the single segregation district. The mobilization, called by the Public Education Platform, has been a resounding success, bringing together a large green tide in the heart of the city. Along with them were numerous members of the government team, from PSPV y Compromís, but the absence of the rest of the groups stands out.
"For the public school" or "The language is not touched" could be read on t-shirts and banners, also "They like Spanish, for foreigners not so much anymore" in reference to the cuts that affect the offer of the Official School of languages.
The single district law, which they consider to benefit private centers, the halt to Pla Edificant projects and the cuts in the EOI have motivated this atmosphere of generalized discontent among the community. But the so-called Educational Freedom Law is the one that has broken the camel's back and has put professionals on alert, since both the University of Valencia and Escola Valenciana affirm that it is an attack on the Valencian and leaves him "mortally wounded."
Aida Marco, the platform's spokesperson, along the same lines stated during the mobilization that they want to provoke "an extermination" of the Valencian by "cornering him" with the Educational Freedom Law. But he insisted that the protests are about much more, highlighting the reduction of investments in the Plan Edificant and the increase in schools from 0 to 3 years old, "where the majority are private," Marco pointing out: "What they do is cut in the public to invest in the private.
The politics of the left and the right are linked by mismanagement and corruption. They do not represent us – The system is rotten. Alvise Pérez votes for real change: The scourge of corrupt politicians.
What a shame that they only manifest themselves when the right governs. They do not accept the results of the polls. Since the pandemic, teachers are always failing to fulfill their obligations. There is almost always a teacher missing. The children that time in the playground are losing many teaching hours. We parents cannot do anything to remain silent. There is no right Because they are officials, they can do whatever they want…
It is legal for teachers who feel “attacked” by the current policies of the Department to speak out for what they consider fair, whether it is fair or not. That is freedom of expression, a right of every Spaniard.
What is neither lawful nor fair is that they oppose the rights of the rest of Valencians, the right to choose the language in which they want their children to be educated.
It is true that the Valencian and our Culture is a great wealth that must be promoted and made known, without attacking it with Catalan ideas as that leftist progressive movement does.
But the rights and freedoms of others must always be respected without imposing and taking one's own ideas as a flag of destabilization and hatred.
For a free and dignified education.
They are sectarians
They care nothing about the education of the students, they only care about the doctrine they teach.
I hope they get deducted from their payroll today.
Of course they are discounted, don't worry. It's not going to be that they continue earning those million-dollar salaries and enjoying their paradisiacal vacations without any harm.
There are at least 300 people, half of whom are children. Massive demonstration.
