HLA San Carlos joins the five-minute blackout of World Energy Efficiency Day

04 March 2019 - 15: 08

Hospital HLA San Carlos celebrates the World Day of Energy Efficiency with a blackout of 5 minutes in all the offices and administrative areas of its commercial and assistance network that do not affect the health care of its patients.

The blackout will be made at the 12 hours of the March 5. This will also occur simultaneously throughout the country and is part of the commitment assumed by the ASISA group on the care of the environment and the efficient use of resources.

The ASISA Group maintains from 2017 the ISO 14001: 2015 environmental management certification in its headquarters and in all its hospitals and, from 2018, in its medical centers. Among the measures applied in the context of this commitment to responsible use of resources are those aimed at achieving greater energy efficiency, which allowed 2018 to reduce 2% the energy consumption of the healthcare network, led by the HLA Group. For 2019, the stated objective is to achieve a reduction of an additional 5% in the energy used in hospitals and medical centers.

Energy efficiency is considered as an essential policy to contain climate change and is included in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and in the 2030 Agenda, which aims to double the efficiency rate in the use of energy in the next decade. Some specialists estimate that, with a more efficient energy consumption, Spain could save up to 3.000 million euros per year.

To help achieve these objectives, the ASISA Group has launched a plan of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption throughout its network. The HLA Group leads its development. Thus, after successfully surpassing different energy audits, HLA has implemented improvements in the thermal envelope of its buildings, in the performance of lighting installations and in heating and cooling installations, replacing older equipment with more efficient and less efficient ones. pollutants

"The reduction of energy consumption is a transversal objective of our entity. For this we have taken some measures that will have an effect in the medium and long term and others that are very simple but very effective and extrapolated to any environment, such as lowering the 1ºC heating. With this small gesture, we can achieve energy savings between 5 and 10% as well as avoid 300 kg. of CO2 emissions per household per year " says Elvira Calvente, responsible for the Environment Department of the HLA Group.

Green buildings

One of the most ambitious bets of the Asisa Group in the medium term is the construction of sustainable buildings. A clear example will be the new medical center in Barcelona that will have energy rating A, the most efficient, and with a plant facade, whose use in construction has a double positive effect: on the one hand, it will help maintain the internal temperature with less need of air conditioning systems and, on the other, will compensate up to an 20% for the emission of CO2 from the building to the atmosphere thanks to the effect of photosynthesis carried out by the floors of the façade. In the words of Dr. Antonia Solvas, secretary of the Governing Board of ASISA-Lavinia and delegate of the company in Barcelona, "This building will be a work environment oriented to fulfill the responsibility that the ASISA Group has acquired with the environment, adapting to the international commitment of the 2030 Agenda proposed by the United Nations for Sustainable Development".

The commitment of Grupo Asisa to the environment also extends to the training of all its professionals as well as to the dissemination of information to patients and family members on good environmental practices to be more energy efficient.
