Dénia City Council, in collaboration with the Oceanographic Foundation, organized last Saturday the Fira de la mar, a recreational-educational day to learn about and respect the sea, aimed at a family audience. Many boys and girls came to the fair, set up on the esplanade near the port pontoons, and actively participated in each of the proposals. The activity is part of the environmental actions that Eulen, concessionaire company of the surveillance and lifeguard service in the beaches of Dénia, must develop on an annual basis to generate an awareness of respect for the environment, as stipulated in the concession contract.
The fair was segmented into 4 areas attended by educators. The first was the Knowledge area, in which the research, conservation and dissemination work carried out by the Oceanographic Foundation was presented, biological samples from the Mediterranean were exhibited and microscopes were placed for observation within the reach of the participants.
Area 2 exposed the main threats that cause environmental impacts on the coast: waste nets, anchors, among others identified and an exhibition was made on marine debris.
The next section of the fair dealt with good practices. As a final activity, the participants wrote a good practice on a piece of paper and hung it on a net located on the sides of the tent. It was about creating a commitment that invites to "take action" and improve the environment. The boys and girls surprised with some of their messages, which included actions such as "Do not throw Legos in the toilet" or "Showers less long".
Finally, a fourth area dedicated to lifeguards and first aid was set up on the esplanade, where different rescue and first aid materials were exhibited, as well as rescue and lifeguard service intervention vehicles.
