SURVEY | Dénia will not have its Carnival: what do you think about the controversial decision of the City Council?

February 15 from 2025 - 11: 34

Dénia, for the first time in years, will not celebrate a Carnival open to the public. There will be a new format that the Department of Festivals and Education has considered more appropriate, A great school carnival on the morning of next Friday, February 28This means that children will have the option of celebrating this festival, as long as they are studying at an educational centre in Dénia and are in the Infant or Primary cycles, and without being able to share it with their relatives. That is, if you have already made the jump to Secondary school, if you are under 3 years old or if you are a young person or adult who likes to celebrate this event, there is no Carnival for you in the city.

The City Council attributes the decision to the fact that most adults go to Pego, giving up on offering an alternative, and affirms that it is not a mass event, despite bringing together more than a hundred people every year. This last statement by the Councillor for Festivals and Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, is particularly tricky: if something is not popular, is it likely to disappear from the programme? Because there are too many events within the different festivals and cultural proposals that do not attract crowds and their future would be in danger if that criterion were used.

Another argument that supports the decision is that if they celebrated it on Saturday 1st it would coincide with the Germanor fallero. But, only those who belong to the Fallas have the right to celebrate Carnival?

And we must not forget those who are constantly forgotten by the administration, the children who are not yet of infant age. Babies under 3 years old are continually excluded from the city's public leisure offer, as there are no activities scheduled (not even storytelling) for children under 6 years old. Now, thanks to the clamour of the citizens, there will finally be a park in Dénia for babies from 0 to 3. In 2025. But in exchange they are left without one of the few Festivals that could be celebrated in their municipality.

In any case, only the students of Infant and Primary will have a Carnival (without relatives). Is this decision the right one? Leave your opinion in the comments box. We read them!

Do you agree with dedicating Carnival only to preschool and primary school students?

  2. Nestor Girona Peris says:

Whether we liked it or not. We all have the right to give our opinion, according to what we consider. But as always the politicians make decisions unilaterally without affecting the citizens. The poor tea drets and com always forget one of the primary circumstances of who is voting.

  3. Lluis says:

Phenomenal. We already have too many parties.

  4. Juan says:

But we already have Carnival every day of the year.

  5. Dani says:

I don't like the festa de carrer and the carnival, which is a Brazilian thing. Menys I like it when the week's caps tank the streets because there are the Moors or the fallers bothering the six pallers. Deixeu what faction your celebrations do not disturb others
If we plau, I lived and deixeu lived the others.

    • Andrés says:

Carnival things of Brazilians, my goodness, if it is not possible to be a Borinot month

    • Parties says:

I propose that you go and pray, we will continue with the festivities. The bitter ones do not want to make life bitter for others. What you have said will sit well with them and you will feel peace.

  6. Diego says:

For me all parties are bad, they should all be private so as not to disturb others, especially the Fallas parties. Those of us who live in Dénia are fed up with street bands, fireworks, mascletats and all that nonsense that leads nowhere. A good party is one that everyone has at home with their family and friends. Those who live well do not need parties in the street.

    • pep says:

The problem with these popular festivals is that they are so tacky that you can't stand them...

    • Pedro says:

I totally agree, I am also from Dénia, I live in Dénia and I do not like the fuss of these disgusting festivals, one worse than the other and every year the same rubbish is repeated, the same problems, the same music that makes me want to vomit.

  7. Robespierre says:

I see in the photo of the Sagunto Patriv crossing
Cio Ferrandis, three or four people, and what do you see? What a disastrous organisation at home, everyone listening to lies from unscrupulous politicians. Shameful.

  8. Fortuna says:

The problem with this Town Hall is that it only caters to children (I'm not excluding them) but it DOES EXCLUDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC. Many of us live in Dénia and don't take part in Fallas or Moors and Christians (it's all very closed-off), but Carnivals are celebrated all over Spain and even if it's just a simple parade with costumes, it's fun and people like to go out and share, enjoy themselves, have a coffee, etc. (if there's a prize or detail for those who take part, then welcome), but DISCARD. What a boring Town Hall, and it doesn't know how to meet the needs of its citizens or their leisure time.

  9. Jopelin says:

As always, this City Council is passing the buck.

They are the first to put up flags

  10. Ana says:

They should consider doing a good carnival in Dénia during the day for children of all kinds and at night for young people and adults as they do in Pego.

  11. Tanys says:

With Franco some lived better with democracy also in that is in Mamau.

  12. Rosa Ferrer Miralkes says:

If the people of Denía go to Pego it will be to find something better than what they cannot find in their "CITY". They should study it.
