The works of the Castle begin to enable the Verger Alt area and reveal its secrets

The ambitious new rehabilitation project of the Castle has been presented this morning by representatives of the City Council, the municipal archaeologist, Josep Gisbert, and the project managers, Julián Esteban and Elisa Moliner. The intention is to rehabilitate the Verger Alt area and the bulwark, which is more visible from the port, to bring to light the Dianense heritage, thus being able to enjoy our history and show off it as a tourist attraction, according to the mayor Vicent Grimalt.

The councilman of Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, has reported that the works, which began last week and will last 5 months, are being carried out by the company Arpa Patrimonio and involve an investment of €321.647,45.

It will be performed in the Verger Alt and Baluarte area. In these areas where 22 is currently going to act, pine trees, terraces, terraces and impassable roads. The restoration work consists of deforestation and elimination of the vegetation cover, as well as the elimination of 50% of margins and terraces, and the realization of archaeological excavations, which in some points will reach 5 meters deep.

The Eastern Bastion will be rehabilitated, an example of the Renaissance era (16th and 17th centuries), the key elements in the operation of this defensive architecture will be recovered, such as the access ramp and the iron portal that closed the enclosure and that will become to install. In the cultivation terraces, the surface will be unified to place explanatory panels of the Renaissance architecture in the castle of Dénia, explained Councilor García de la Reina.

Grimalt, meanwhile, has stressed that “The government team continues to bet on the recovery of the Castell de Dénia as an emblem of the city. The enhancement of the scale of the Governor's Palace, the improvement of the access at the top of the castle, the improvement and abancalament works financed by the PIP and, now the performance in the Verger Alt, are an example of the commitment decided by the recovery of the rich cultural heritage of the city. In the coming months we will have ready and present the Castell's Master Plan that will mark the strategic lines of the castle, as well as plan future investments and generate a dynamic and modern management of the Dénia Castle ”.
