The PGE already complete with which Dénia will reach 50.000 inhabitants, in figures

14 June 2022 - 11: 37

The City Council of Dénia has managed to finalize the demanded General Structural Plan, which became an urgency after the fall of the NUTs. Seven years has cost the drafting of the PGE, since 2015, which will go through the fifth public exhibition from Thursday after its approval tomorrow during an extraordinary plenary session. From Thursday, therefore, it will be exposed on the City Council website so that it can be consulted by anyone who wants it during 20 days. There will also be an exhibition at La Casa de la Marquesa with the most relevant plans.

After the period of exposure to the public, they must resolve all the allegations that may exist. In total, since the history of this PGE began, it has suffered 470 allegations, in the last exhibition (last February) there were about twenty. Afterwards, it is expected that it be approved in plenary session and sent to the Ministry for its final approval, although the Councilor for Town Planning, Maria Josep Ripoll, has not dared to put a date for the final conclusion.

Population growth and residential hectares, for transportation and other activities

Now, what will be the real impact, in figures, of this plan for Dénia? The final PGE foresees a growth of the city until it reaches 50.000 inhabitants (despite the fact that in its beginnings the 55.000 were persecuted). This will be achieved with the new residential growth to which they will allocate 50 hectares. There will also be 32 hectares for new activity growth. It is estimated that the annual water consumption will be 7,4 cubic hectometers, which has obtained favorable reports and the City Council considers it completely acceptable.

In terms of transport, the most important facilities will be the access to the port in the form of a 14-hectare road-park y 10.000 square meters for an intermodal station. In addition, ample parking spaces are planned in Marines-Deveses, Hort de Morans and at the train station.

Large number of new educational centers in Dénia

The PGE will also come with an increase in educational centers in Dénia. There will be two new institutes, one in the Torrecremada area and another in Nova Dénia. In addition, the expansion of the IES Maria Ibars is planned inside. Similarly, there will be spaces to house four new infant and primary schools, located in Nova Dénia, Torrecremada, Bosc de Diana and Sant Vicent Ferrer, in Les Rotes, after being enlarged. The centers of La Xara and Jesús Pobre will also be expanded.

Green areas contemplated

But not everything will be cement. Ripoll affirms that a good percentage will be allocated for the creation of green areas. The most important will be an announced Alqueries park of 13 hectares or with a Gandia park of 3,7 hectares. In this way, the criteria of more than 5 square meters of park per inhabitant and more than 10 square meters of gardens and play areas are met.

Ripoll wanted to highlight the work of the local government to voluntarily protect large natural areas and agricultural landscapes, beyond those required by regulations. In fact, of the approximately 6.600 hectares with which Dénia has, 4.000 are non-developable protected land y 871 of common non-urbanizable rural land.

More than expanding, it is necessary to improve, Denia cannot increase its population with the current infrastructure: garbage collection system and poor cleaning, insufficient trees, poorly paved streets and lack of an urban electric bus to avoid cars, more shops and buildings not high either, whatever is built with a Mediterranean style, we are not Madrid nor do we want to compete with any big city, less cement and put more value on nature, it is time to take care of the environment, a sustainable future asks for it, more quality and less quantity

How little these "leaders" are going to last.

  3. Daniel says:

There are several projects that could change Dénia:
The "Mate Nostrum" Theater-Auditorium that would be built in the port, the "Mediterranean" Shopping Center that would be erected on the site of the old abandoned building, a decent Bus Station that would be built in Ronda Murallas, a dock for "medium" cruise ships and small” after a study with ports and Generalitat, +500 jobs dedicated to hospitality and tourism and the projection of the “Gran Vía” of Philip II as a historical touch, with large buildings and shops.
    Dénia has to reach 100.000

    • Luis says:

Cruise ships cannot enter the Port because it does not have enough draft. A ship of these dimensions has a volume below the waterline. Who would come to the Auditorium Theater to act or as an audience? For it to be profitable, it would have to be working at full capacity every weekend, all year round, and here there is not so much public, nor interest, nor economic level. Same thing in the Shopping Center, there isn't as much demand as well as killing the internal commercial supply. Another Zara? For what? As for the dream of the "Gran Via" with large buildings, he says... with a historical touch... What do we put in Luxury Tourist Apartments?
The proposal is megalomaniacal, excessive and unrealistic.

With a non-existent housing stock, a huge unemployment rate and without a suitable public infrastructure network such as the sewage system, etc. Building solely to speculate touristically, that is the only thing they propose and on top of that they do not even take care of the beaches. Go out gentlemen..
