Dénia's new energy services contract will increase lighting in Les Marines and Montgó

13 October 2022 - 10: 04

The early plenary session held at the Dénia City Council this morning was enough to unanimously approve the contract for energy services and maintenance of outdoor public lighting installations, traffic lights and sports facilities. A mixed supply and services contract that will last 15 years and has been awarded for 871.820,91 euros per year.

The winning company is Sitelec Global de Servicios y Obras SL and, according to the Consistory, the contract will lead to savings in the energy bill for the municipal coffers. In addition to the modernization of public lighting, alignment with the 2030 urban agenda, complying with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in terms of CO₂ emissions and light pollution. It is also perceived as an important step towards the implementation of the Smart City, since it will allow public lighting to be evaluated and controlled in real time, adjusting it to the needs of each moment.

The preparation of a lighting audit commissioned by the city council three years ago highlighted the need to act on public lighting from an effective and efficient perspective. Something that implies not only the change of streetlights, but also installing luminaires that meet the technical requirements mandated by the regulations and launching projects that adapt to the energy efficiency regulations and comply with the measures of the low voltage regulation.

Actions that the new contract will allow

Thus, the new award will mean the renovation of some 5.500 streetlights in the city to equip them with LED technology with a warm white temperature of 3000 K. Among the improvements provided for in the specifications is also the increase in lighting on the Carretera de las Marines and in the Montgó area with solar lamps.

Likewise, photovoltaic installations will be created in the trinquet area and in the Joan Fuster pavilion that will allow the buildings to be self-sufficient and will have sufficient performance to favor the creation of a local energy community. This surplus will allow the council, for example, to help people and families in vulnerable situations.

The savings in terms of consumption that the city council has foreseen with this new contract are approximately 70% in external lighting costs, 25% in electricity consumption of municipal buildings and 10% in thermal consumption of municipal facilities .

The investment in these actions is quantified at around 2,5 million euros. The councilor of Economic Services, Paco Roselló, has highlighted that "these investments will not entail any debt for the council, since they will be borne by the concessionaire company" to meet the conditions of the specifications.
