The Ministry of Tourism grants one million euros to the 'Viu la posidonia' program presented by the municipalities of Dénia, Ibiza and Cambrils

The Ministry of Tourism has published the provisional resolution of the call for the "Spain Tourism Experiences" aid program and the 'Viu la posidonia' project, presented jointly by the municipalities of Dénia, Ibiza and Cambrils, has received a grant of 1.157.380 euros.

The call is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed with Next Generation European funds.

'Viu la posidonia' is an experiential ecotourism project, the final objective of which is, "not so much to get more tourism to the three cities, but rather to make the people who visit them aware of the importance of Posidonia and the benefits it brings to the waters of the Mediterranean and to the environment ”, as explained during the joint presentation of the project in Ibiza, last May.

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has highlighted that the granting of this subsidy "so important, quantitatively and also because of its symbolism, it is a reward for the awareness task that the coastal municipalities have been doing for years". Grimalt has pointed out that “the protection of posidonia in tourist towns like ours can only go through its enhancement as a resource, as well as environmental, tourist and involve all agents in the tourism sector in protection. We have to be firm and convinced defenders of the richness of our beaches and our natural environment.

Precisely last week, the Oceanographic Foundation and the Generalitat presented the app 'Posidonia Project', in which the Dénia City Council, among other municipalities on the Valencian coast, has collaborated. The application offers a geolocated map of the main underwater meadows of Posidonia, about 9.000 hectares, of the Natura 2000 Network.

The marine reserve of Cabo de Sant Antoni (900 hectares) and the Almadraba SCI (2.239 hectares) are the two large areas of the Dianense coast with the highest presence of Posidonia meadows.

What is 'Viu la posidonia'

'Viu la posidonia' is a tourism product with a zero carbon footprint that promotes knowledge about a part of the marine ecosystem that is essential for the conservation of biodiversity on the coast, the cleaning of the waters, the protection of the beach line against storms and the fixation of atmospheric carbon, all this through a set of activities compatible with the enjoyment of our beaches and the performance of active and healthy leisure practices .

In short, the project wants to help get to know this plant that populates the seabed and contribute to making the population aware of the fact that the presence of Posidonia on the coast is a symptom of the health of the coastline and a guarantee that our beaches will continue to be a privileged place.

Among the actions that are planned are the identification with cartography of the spaces with Posidonia that can be visited, involving tourist agents in dissemination, editing informative material, holding awareness-raising sessions and the creation of a virtual center for Posidonia, among others.
