The Dénia Hospital organizes the 'First Coexistence of celiac children in the Marina Alta'

The Pediatric Department of the Department of Health of Dénia, at the initiative of Dr. Alicia Berghezan Suárez, Pediatrician Gastroenterologist of the Hospital, in collaboration with ACECOVA - Association of Celiacs of the Valencian Community - and the Town Hall of Calp, celebrates a playful day- informative for celiac children. The I Coexistence of the Marina Alta, raised as a family gathering, where in addition to having fun and living together, attendees, both children and adults, can learn more about celiac disease and gluten-free diet. The meeting will take place in the House of Culture from the town next September 28. He will attend all those celiac children, between 5 and 15 years, of the Marina Alta who wish.

During the day, the kids will learn to prepare gluten-free pizzas, as well as to know and face different food situations that may arise outside their closest environment. The objective of the meeting is that the parents of the celiac children and adolescents of the Marina Alta know the resources they have to improve the quality of life of their children.

In order to participate in the activities provided for in the I Coexistence, prior registration is required, by filling out a form, which must be sent to the email address info@acecova.org, before Monday 23 of September of 2019. Only one registration will be made per family or cohabitation unit, indicating the data of all attendees. These are free days, aimed at those affected or relatives of celiac children, residing in the Marina Alta.

According to the Pediatrician of Hospital de DéniaAlicia Berghezan "The disease could debut with various symptoms, but the most frequent are diarrhea and abdominal pain. In other cases the minor presents irritability, anxiety, lack of energy, even depression ". In any case, underlines Berghezan, "If you suspect a possible celiac disease, it is best to consult with your pediatrician to make a correct diagnosis".

At present, the Association of Celiacs of the Valencian Community has registered about 2.500 families in which some member is celiac. In the Marina Alta there are identified minor 60 with gluten intolerance. For all of them, ACECOVA develops various care programs, related to food safety, such as the Comprehensive Care Program for Celiac Children in School Age.
