The City Council of Dénia, after an executive meeting that took place this afternoon to clarify what happened with the mayor Cristina Morera, which has been known to use irregularities in the vaccination process against COVID-19 to receive a dose, has sent a statement in which, far from turning their back on the councilor, they value her good intention.
According to PSPV, Morera would have acted logically by accepting a dose for, following the argument of politicians vaccinated irregularly in the Marina Alta, not waste it and have to throw it away. In her opinion, if this irregularity existed, it was because of the Public Health department, which was the one who offered that possibility that the mayor accepted.
There is no resignation or repercussion, for the moment, from his own party despite the fact that opposition groups are demanding that he leave office. The PSPV, for its part, has asked Minister Ana Barceló to open an investigation against Public Health.

Today it has been made public, in a communication medium, that the councilor for Health and Social Welfare of the Dénia City Council, Cristina Morera, received the vaccine against COVID-19 on January 12, within the vaccination process that was carried out held on that date at the Santa Llúcia Residence.
Having made the pertinent inquiries by the municipal group of the PSPV-PSOE and the local executive, we want to record how the events happened, which have been confirmed by the Department of Public Health of Dénia:
- Councilor Cristina Morera received a call late in the afternoon from the director of Public Health of the area to help the vaccination staff who had been sent to the residence to find other people who could take advantage of the remaining doses; otherwise, they would have to be thrown away.
- The mayor made the appropriate arrangements and traveled to the day center, where the vaccination point was enabled, with people, over 65 years of age or with risk diseases, located to be vaccinated.
- At the last minute, one of the volunteers refused treatment due to medical advice.
- And then the councilor was asked to be the recipient of the last remaining dose so as not to waste it.
Both the councilor and the mayor and local secretary of the PSPV-PSOE, Vicent Grimalt, have asked the Department of Public Health to issue a clear report on the facts and the criteria that were followed to contact the Councilor for Health and offer her, as a last resort, the remaining dose of the vaccine. The head of the service has confirmed the version of the councilor and has promised to write and send the relevant report to the Ministry of Health, of which the councilor herself, Ana Barceló, and the regional secretary, Isaura Navarro, have already been notified .
Therefore, from the local executive we consider that the case, if it is really controversial and proceeded in an irregular manner, is already being investigated by the competent authorities: the Department of Public Health and the Ministry of Health.
For her part, Councilor Cristina Morera has expressed her apology, in case the way of acting was wrong, despite the fact that "In no case was there bad faith or willingness to take advantage of the position to obtain a privilege. I limited myself to following the instructions of the health authorities at all times and assessing as correct the criterion of not losing doses, which I understood was part of the protocol established for the vaccination process ".
In fact, Morera has added, "I was the last resort, and late at night, so as not to have to throw away any doses. I was there because they asked me for help in locating priority people for vaccination and they considered that getting vaccinated was better than losing the dose". "In addition, the first thing I did, when they asked for my help, was to make sure that the city's risk groups, health workers, social health personnel, residents of Santa Llúcia, were already vaccinated ".
The councilor has also made available to the mayor her act of councilor and the possibility of abandoning her powers if it is considered so or if the PSOE decides to end a file to remove membership.
Even so, pending the conclusions of the Public Health report, neither the executive nor the municipal group will make any decision at the moment about the maintenance of Councilor Cristina Morera, who, especially in the tough months of the pandemic and in front of two delegations as sensitive as Health and Social Welfare, has developed an impeccable and very valuable work at crucial moments.
Surely by calling the Red Cross they could have located 90-year-olds to get the vaccine. Both the Mayor and the Councilor have acted either in bad faith or with an incompetence that borders on crime.
It is a shame she must leave her position immediately, she is the one who accepted the vaccine, she could have said NO it corresponds to me but of course she was smart (the dose was going to be lost)
