Unemployment increases by 593 people during the month of November

16 December 2020 - 16: 12

The number of Social Security affiliates in November decreased by 943 people, a decrease of 1,76%, a bad behavior in that month, since since 2015 there had not been a November with lower figures. Thus assuming a fourth month of decline in affiliates, also covering up those affected by ERTE that have increased due to outbreaks in the second wave of the pandemic.

The seasonally adjusted series of affiliates also reflects a decrease in affiliation in November and the year-on-year variation stood at -2,95%, which in terms of persons represents a drop of 1.600 affiliates to Social Security in the last 12 months . The total number of affiliates thus stands at 52.679 people. And if we compare with the month of February, where we place the start of the covid-19 crisis, we have a fall of 1.032 people in these nine months.

The General Regime, where the majority of employed persons contribute, lost 863 affiliates and added a total of 33.221 taxpayers, 5,74% less than a year before and 2,53% less than in October this year. Membership in the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) - self-employed workers - increased again this November compared to the same month of the previous year, + 2,66% and remained almost stable in the monthly rate (-0,22% ), until
achieve 17.115 employed persons.

Regarding the number of unemployed in the Marina Alta During the month of November, there has been an increase of 593 people, reaching a total of 13.810 unemployed. When we compare with the Novembers of previous years
We highlight that it is the worst relative data in the historical series of the last decade.

This growth to 13.810 unemployed represents an increase in interannual terms of 2.881 unemployed persons, + 26,36%.

The percentage increases in the last year are being more intense in the case of men, practically 1 percentage point above the increase in unemployment in women, but in both population groups, there are increases in unemployment. Although unemployment is growing more among men than among women, we continue to maintain a situation in which the number of male unemployed workers is lower (6.099 unemployed, 44,16%) than that of women (7.711 unemployed, 55,84%) .

By economic sectors, unemployment has dropped slightly in agriculture and construction, reaching 238 unemployed (-0,42%) and 1.574 unemployed (-0,13%) respectively. As usual, the sector where unemployment increased the most this past month was the services sector, with 577 more unemployed, reaching 10.651 unemployed (+ 5,73%).

If we break down by activity section, the hotel industry, the most affected union, reached the highest increases in unemployment (+ 11,99%, 3.866 unemployed).

By calculating the unemployment rate in the Marina Alta, an increase of one percentage point is observed compared to October, reaching an estimated unemployment rate of 20,77%.

Again, as in previous analyzes of the labor market, the evolution of the total number of ERTE must be known, another of the data that is relevant to assess the evolution of the labor market. The number of new temporary employment regulation files in force that are known at the end of November in the Marina Alta is approximately 40, which represents an increase of approximately 160 affected workers (there are around 3.540 ERTE requested).

As expected, the great weight of concessions is maintained in the activities of the service sector, specifically in the activity of restaurants and food stalls (over 16% with around 3.200 affiliates
affected), drinking establishments (over 7% and around 1.060 affected affiliates), hairdressers and other beauty treatments (over 4% with around 330 affected workers), maintenance and repair of
motor vehicles (over 3% and around 390 workers affected), among others.

In terms of contracts, as a variable that informs us about the dynamism that the labor market is showing, we find that the month of November has had a clearly lower signing of contracts than November of last year. We are talking about a drop in permanent contracts of 8,08%, while in the case of temporary contracts, the reduction compared to November 2019 has been 24,17%. It is true that in previous months more pronounced percentage drops have been achieved, but we are still far from speaking of a “normal” year in terms of hiring.
