The City Council of Dénia already has the prior self-diagnosis to the preparation of the Intelligent Tourist Destination Plan that will begin to be drawn up after the summer.

With this initiative, Dénia, which is already part of the network of smart tourist destinations in the Valencian Community, begins the procedures to prepare a tourism plan that responds to the impact of new technologies in the tourism sector.

In the current information and communication society, new needs and demands have appeared in recent times, to which the tourist activity must adapt and seek an answer. These changes directly affect how the visitor interacts with the destination: the search for information prior to travel, the use of mobile devices during the trip, the great advances in connectivity, Big Data or data intelligence (which provides great amount of valuable data to know in detail the problems of the destination).

This metamorphosis requires an adaptation of the offer and, therefore, of tourism management. For this reason, the development of a comprehensive management tool is needed, such as the preparation of an intelligent Tourist Destination plan, understanding as "Smart destiny" an innovative tourist space, accessible to all, consolidated on a state-of-the-art technological infrastructure that guarantees the sustainable development of the territory, facilitates the interaction and integration of the visitor with the environment and increases the quality of their experience in the destination and the quality of life of the residents.

The objective of this management model is none other than to provide the destination with accurate, reliable and up-to-date information so that, based on knowledge, it makes decisions that help it define and improve the implementation of the chosen strategy by drawing up a plan. .

To do this, the first step has been to identify the existing deviation between the current tourism management model of the destination with respect to the Intelligent Tourism Destination management model by writing the self-diagnosis. The self-diagnosis of the city of Dénia measures indicators in the following variables: governance, sustainability, accessibility, innovation, connectivity, intelligence, information, online marketing and evolution of tourism activity.
