Two busts sculpted by Tenor Cortis will be part of the Museo Etnologico de Dénia

27 July 2017 - 16: 28

The sculptor facet of Antonio Cortis is not as well known as his facet as a tenor, but it existed. Good examples of this are the two pieces that, since this week, are part of the collection of the Ethnological museum Of Denia, although temporarily. These are two busts carved by the tenor himself that has left in deposit the museum Carlos Soler d'Hyver de las Deses, grandson of the baroness of Casa Soler.

One of the pieces is a bust of Cortis himself, sculpted in terracotta, in which we can see the image of the tenor adorned with what looks like the robes of Enzo Grimaldo's character in the opera La Gioconda, By Amilcare Ponchielli. In the lower right of the bust appears the signature of Cortis, who had to make this sculpture around 1935, as informed by the director of the Ethnolgic Museum, Josep Antoni Gisbert.

The second work, also signed by the artist, is a terracotta bust of Rosalía Moreno Carbonell, Baroness of Casa Soler, sculpted towards 1940.

The two pieces belong to his family and will comprise, for at least six months, the exhibition of the Museo Etnològic, along with several panels from the exhibition on the life of Tenor Cortis held in Denia a few months ago, showing images Photographic images of Denia from the time the tenor was born.

Next to this assignment, Carlos Soler has donated a photo with dedication of the Tenor Cortis of the year 1929 that belonged to the photographic archive of the barons of Casa Soler. In the dedication, directed to one of the girls who worked in the house of the familiar farm of Campotorres, or property of the Baroness, one reads of fist and letter of the tenor "For Josefa as I remember".

The director of the ethnological museum, Josep Gisbert, Has announced that the busts are part of the museum project on the history of the city planned in the House of the Marquesa Valero de Palma once the rehabilitation of the building is carried out, "so that this time of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century has a dignified representation in the museum and the baroness of Casa Soler has a place in the memory of Dénia".
