The mayors of Els Poblets, Carolina Vives, and Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, have met today at the City Council of Dénia with the sub-delegate of the Government in Alicante, Araceli Poblador, and representatives of the Júcar Hydrological Confederation (CHJ) and the Provincial Headquarters of Coasts. The objective of the meeting has been to agree on a new action to eliminate the problems of stagnation of water and algae at the mouth of the river Girona.
As a conclusion to the meeting, it has been agreed that the consistories of Dénia and Els Poblets will again defray and execute the creation of a natural barrier of boulders at the mouth, as was done two years ago. The reconstruction of this natural wall, as demonstrated in its day, prevents the collapse of the mouth caused by the accumulation of algae and the consequent problems of bad odor and concentration of insects.

Those present have agreed to value that the problem, which is repeated every summer, is due to the breakwater at the mouth, which makes it easier for the algae to enter the river and at the same time prevents it from being thrown back into the sea.
The CHJ will complete the performance with the extraction of the posidonia accumulated in Girona.
