Dénia stays in a region that dies

12 December 2019 - 09: 20

The National Statistics Institute has published the alarming data of births and deaths by municipality, where it can be seen that the figures of the first ones are falling with respect to deaths, which are still higher. 79% of Spanish municipalities, almost 4 of each 5, record more deaths than births. And Dénia is that fifth municipality.

The natural growth of the population, during the last four decades, has been declining until giving a negative balance from 2015. One of the main reasons is the fall in immigration, which boosted birth rates in Spain. This demographic setback causes the State to lose inhabitants annually.

In the case of the Marina AltaThe data is just as shocking. Only two municipalities Dénia and Ondara, maintain a demographic stability, compensating the deaths with births. Ondara certainly has a positive balance since 1996, although Dénia in 2018 did record slightly higher death rates.

However, the ridiculous difference in the regional capital during the past year between deaths and births, having 9 more than the first, is more than compensated with the good data dragged from the 96. Exactly, Dénia registered 333 births versus 342 deaths, but 1936 has still registered more of the first since 1996, so we still have a positive percentage.

As usual, the figure is getting worse as we enter the interior of the region, where there is a significant demographic decline. Some municipalities reach even very worrying results for the future if you want to avoid being included as a postal code in the call Spain emptied. This is the case, for example, of Castell de Castells, which in 2018 added 12 deaths and not a single birth.
