Dénia adheres to the Network of cities free of trafficking in persons destined for prostitution

The City Council of Dénia will approve in the plenary session of this September the adherence to the Network of cities free of trafficking in women, children and girls destined for prostitution, as announced by the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Javier Scotto.

By joining this national network, Dénia undertakes to design specific and periodic campaigns to sensitize the population that prostitution "It is equal to gender violence and sexual exploitation of women", seeking to socially and publicly delegitimize clients and pimps, “Responsible actors and active accomplices in this form of gender violence”.

Likewise, the motion to join, which was unanimously approved by the Social Welfare information commission yesterday, establishes that the city council will not act against prostituted women or seek their penalization or sanction, but that, in collaboration with the other administrations, it will provide funds for comprehensive social services aimed at any woman in prostitution who wishes to leave her, providing assistance, help and training that allows her incorporation into society. In the same way, the central and regional administrations will be urged to seize the goods of the sex industry and to establish regulations that prevent urban advertising spaces or the media from profiting from advertising related to sexual exploitation .

Around this commitment, the Department of Equality and Diversity, in collaboration with the center associated with the UNED of Dénia, has organized tomorrow, Thursday, September 17, at the House of Culture, a conference on human trafficking and prostitution with the participation of national and international experts. Yesterday the registration period closed with one hundred registered attendees, both in the form of face-to-face assistance and online.

The fight against gender violence, on the agenda

On the other hand, Javier Scotto announced yesterday the school agenda for the 2020-2021 academic year that has been published by the Department of Equality and Diversity and that during these days it is being distributed among the students of 1st and 2nd of ESO of public and concerted schools of Dénia.

The agenda addresses the issue of gender violence with appointments, telephone numbers for attention and prevention services in Dénia, tests that help boys and girls to identify what their relationship is like and what attitudes are toxic and dangerous and QR codes of audiovisuals related to the theme.

The action is aimed at students from 12 to 14 years old "because they are at the age when they discover affective relationships beyond friendship ", explains Scotto, who has also highlighted the importance of influencing the prevention of gender violence from education and the school environment.

In this sense, Equality has been working for years with two other programs in schools: "The mask of love", aimed at 3rd and 4th ESO students, and "Tutty", for primary school children.
