Dénia takes out an army of mannequins to fight sexist violence

November 24 from 2020 - 13: 54

The action in urban space "Warriors against gender violence", which the Department of Equality and Sexual Diversity has organized on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day against Gender Violence, can be visited in the Plaza de la Constitució from today until the next day 27.

The intervention consists of placing 100 mannequins, all women, in the central access stairway to the city hall building, equipped with T-shirts and masks with the logo of the action "Warriors against gender violence."

The masks worn by the mannequins show, along with the campaign logo, a comic strip with the image of a warrior. As explained by the Councilor for Equality, Javier Scotto, "A youthful design has been sought for this accessory, essential today, since we have ordered 1.400 units to distribute them, mainly, among high school and vocational training students at Dénia institutes".

The arrangement of the one hundred mannequins, provided by the DiCapo company, is not accidental, but rather refers to the famous terracotta warriors of Xian, a monumental complex that is well known and easily identifiable by the public.

Javier Scotto has pointed out that "the urban intervention aims to make visible the struggle and activism necessary to end this social scourge, reinforcing the message that, by fighting among all and all, the victims come out of gender violence". “It refers to the victims who suffer gender violence, who can fight and leave; Those who have come out are also fighters and those who help other women to come out ”, she adds. "The empowerment of women - concludes the councilor - is key to combat gender violence."
