Dénia projects the redevelopment of the Glorieta and the final pedestrianization of Marqués de Campo

17 July 2020 - 14: 21

The City Council of Dénia has submitted, to the Plan Plan of the Alicante Provincial Council, two projects of the three maximums that can be based on the pedestrianization of two important public spaces in the town, as well as their redevelopment. There are two performances, one of them in Glorieta and the other on Calle de Marqués de Campo, amounting to a budget of more than 1,3 million euros.

The councilor for Territory and Urban Quality of Dénia, María Josep Ripoll, explained that in the face of the change that cities are undergoing and more with the situation of the coronavirus pandemic, it is "Inevitably and urgently adapting to the new situation and the future climate crisis, we have opted to recover public space for people".

Ripoll has indicated that the municipal government continues in the line of work begun in the last legislature based on the remodeling of emblematic places for the use and enjoyment of passers-by, so in this new proposal it projects the redevelopment of the Pabellón del País Valencià and its surroundings, Ramón y Cajal, Cop and Carreró de Morand streets, with the aim of "To value this historical space" and to reinforce in this space the concept of a gazebo.

The project presented to the Provincial Council Plan contemplates the pedestrianization of the Glorieta, giving it an elliptical geometry and expanding the space with central natural vegetation, using native species of the Marina Alta or historically naturalized, and planting trees to create shady areas. It is proposed to maintain its characteristic solid red brick and the stone pavement of the central area, as well as to eliminate the presence of vehicles, road traffic and parking.

The redevelopment planned by the city council also contemplates the removal of the artificial grass that now covers some areas of the gazebo, of the architectural barriers that prevent accessibility and the excessive use of surface covered by gravel or edges. As for the surrounding streets, the main action will consist of repaving them, also adapting the necessary infrastructures.

The drafting of the project and the execution of the works have a global tender budget of 967.429,26 euros, of which the County Council could subsidize up to 55%. The estimated execution period, in the absence of the project, is 8 months. The intention of the local executive is to carry out this project in the first place, between 2021 and 2022, as indicated by the councilor for Territory.

Marquis de Campo Project

The second project that Dénia is going to present to the Plan Plan consists of improving the firm of the Calle Marques de Campo and the change of luminaires to led technology. As explained by the mayor, due to the volume of traffic supported, the pavement of this main artery of the city is very deteriorated and needs to be replaced.

The planned action, according to the report drawn up by municipal technicians, consists of demolishing the transverse stone bands that cross the road, as well as a meter of paving stone on each side of them, placing a new pavement with concrete paving stones.

Vertical traffic signs, signage and bollards will also be dismantled to rethink their quantity and disposition, "Since now they do not make the walk easy for the pedestrian", has pointed out the councilor Maria Josep Ripoll.

Likewise, the 106 points of sodium vapor light will be replaced by LED technology to improve the energy efficiency of street lighting.

These works in Marqués de Campo street have a tender budget of 330.309,28 euros, of which the County Council could subsidize up to 55%, and an approximate execution time of 4 months.

Mayor, Vicent Grimalt, stressed that the two projects submitted to Plan Planifica will contribute to making the center of Dénia “A pedestrian ring, comfortable for people, that connects the cultural and historical heritage”, such as museums, churches or the municipal library. Likewise, it is of the opinion that “A process that cannot stop until we achieve a modern and sustainable city, designed for people”.

Grimalt has also mentioned that the recovery of public spaces should be linked to the organization of aspects such as loading and unloading of goods and people living in pedestrian areas, so it is studied that access to these vehicles is allowed in certain time bands given the pedestrianization of both areas.

Regarding parking, another fundamental issue in the process of pedestrianization of the city center, the mayor has pointed out that in addition to parking spaces public parking free available in the suburbs, "no more than 15 minutes walk from the center", the city council is agreeing with the associations Aehtma, ACADE, ACE and the Mercat Municipal to be able to offer its customers advantageous prices, and even free, depending on the case, in private parking lots.

Next week, municipal representatives will meet with residents of the affected area to explain the project, agree on dates for the works to bother residents, merchants and hoteliers as little as possible and listen to the proposals they wish to make, as announced by the mayor, Vicent Grimalt.

Citizen Support

For her part, the spokesperson for the Municipal Group citizens Dénia at the City Council, Susana Mut, has stated that
indicated that Ciudadanos will present, together with the government team, the redevelopment project of La Glorieta and the improvement of the Marqués de Campo pavement.

"We continue working for the city, and this is a new demonstration of this. We have made available the capabilities available to Citizens in the Alicante Provincial Council so that Dénia would no longer be the defenestra when it comes to obtaining provincial aid. The adaptation of the Glorieta del País Valencia and its surroundings must have been done a long time ago, since it is the benchmark of the city, both commercially and at a tourist level, but it has lagged behind other areas of the city that have been improving with
Over the years"
Mut has pointed out.

Regarding the improvements of the pavement of Marques de Campo street and the change of lights, it has been indicated that "Circulating on the pavement of Campo street is complicated, since the paving stones are currently a danger due to the state they are in, as well as incorporating a new LED lighting with low consumption and high energy efficiency".

A statement from C's states that this agreement comes after several months of joint negotiations, "Next week the government team and C's Dénia will meet with the Deputy for Infrastructure, Javier Gutiérrez structures, to outline the projects to present before next July 31, the maximum term to present them to the Provincial Council", Councilor Estefanía Schwamb has pointed out.

Has the city council raised the abolition of the tax on mechanical traction vehicles ???
It would also be a good option, given that if you can already circulate and park little in Denia, because when it is not possible to circulate, since everything is pedestrianized, it would be logical not to pay the tax
I also recommend removing the municipal market from the center so that people can go shopping with greater accessibility

  2. Carmen Gomez Lorenzo says:

    Good afternoon:
First of all my most sincere CONGRATULATIONS.

I have been fighting in Denia since 1991, for this to take place as soon as possible and finally (better late than never) it seems that we will be able to enjoy it ...

Please hire specialized and resident personnel throughout the year and for a long time, in Denia and that it be done conscientiously, always considering whether to open the streets due to a breakdown, etc. It can be done WITHOUT NOISES or the minimum ones and without being forced to damage the placed material, in the near or distant future.
For example: double pipes, avoid having to drill the entire floor ... paved floor, it goes in and out without being damaged, lighting attached to the houses, you avoid material, benches to sit with backrest and very resistant galvanized iron, in wide streets and where there is visibility ... resistant bins, also attached to the houses, that the bags with the wind, etc.

    SPACE is our best ALLY.

I came from the Costa Brava at that time and there, I already enjoyed this privilege and the residents, delighted, even those who initially did not agree so much.
The obstacles disappeared and the customer, unhurried and relaxed, shopping with pleasure filling the pockets of his neighbors ...

The MOST IMPORTANT thing is that we all get used to making life and seeing it as something natural.

    In ALL THE URBAN CENTER.

    WITHOUT ANY EXPENSE

Later, choose the works in small areas, so as not to lift everything at once and make it possible, during the time that it lasts, to transit through these areas.
And depending on whether you have a finished section, start another ...

EXPENSES will go little by little, giving priority to the one that produces less expenses
(LED) thus achieving savings and of course second place, the LESS IT CONTAMINATES and the longer it lasts.

It is not about spending too many euros just in one point of Denia, the URBAN CENTER, since Denia also has pending arrangements in the Rotas, the Marinas and the MONTGO, the latter, too busy, to be a NATURAL PARK ... and with terrible access: no sidewalks, transport (small and electric vehicles must be), bike lanes, etc.

Knock down or throw away should be avoided, something that has not been invested in long ago, if not essential.
It is not about modernity, it is about giving way to ordinary staff.

The paving of the floor of Marques de Campo, looks perfect, it is not urgent and it may be an avoidable expense at the moment, since it has been invested numerous times in it, since it will not be all walk, but exhibition of terraces, etc.

The access areas must be marked,
yes ..., if they enter or not, depending on, electric vehicles, such as:
    wheelchairs, scooters, bicycles.

Do not exceed the asphalt or cement, trees and green areas are essential.
In the part of the town hall, they exceeded ... and we lost very beautiful green areas ...
Let's install good irrigation systems and the trees, planted very deep, so that they cannot disappear or die before they should ...

Denia center is very beautiful and most of its facades are very well maintained and clean, let's continue on that path and it will be:
    "Bread for today and tomorrow"

    All the best
