Dénia begins the expansion work of the area of urban gardens in Torrecremada

January 27 from 2023 - 13: 27

Work to create new plots for urban gardens on the Torrecremada estate began this week. The urban gardens are a municipal initiative aimed mainly at the integration of the elderly and other groups, whose main objectives are to promote organic farming, produce healthy and fresh food and recover the region's traditional horticultural variety.

Given the growing citizen demand, the city council has now decided to create a new phase, the third, which will allow the members of the existing waiting list to have their plot for cultivation, said the Councilor for Ecological Transition, Maite Pérez Conejero.

The new phase of urban gardens is located on a municipal plot of 3.972,72 square meters, adjacent to the two previous phases and located on the Torrecremada estate. According to the project drawn up by the Department of Ecological Transition, the land will accommodate some 50 plots of urban gardens, a module for toilets and paths and common areas and will be equipped with an irrigation system, with water from its own well, and lighting.

The works have begun by clearing the land and compacting the soil. The action area will also be leveled and the exterior fencing of the complex will be carried out. Pedestrian doors will be placed and a network of access roads to the plots and common spaces will be set up. The expected execution period for the actions is one month.

The action has been awarded for an amount of 39.300 euros and is partially subsidized by the Provincial Council of Alicante in its 2022 call for aid to carry out actions included within the scope of action of the Area of Economic Development and Productive Sectors.
