Mayor, Vicent Grimalt, signed today the decree to initiate the file and the appointment of Raúl García de la Reina, Councilor for Culture, as an instructor.

Francesc Muñoz Martínez (Valencia, 1939), Paco Muñoz, settled in Dénia in 1988, when his wife Pepa López was appointed as a teacher at Les Vessanes school. The singer was immediately integrated into the environment and the cultural and musical circles of the city. He collaborated with the fable Vent, Pols and Pua, with which he rehearsed and performed publicly. With the Musical Artistic Group of Dénia he visited the schools singing for the children of the city, and has also performed in the Festival de la ciudad.

From his stay in Dénia, and inspired by his experiences, he composes a large part of the album De una tierra within the sea, in which El viejo Montgó is found, a song that will end up becoming a symbol of educational identity for Dénia, until the to the point that different musical groups in the city have covered it and adapted it to their traditional repertoires.

Paco Muñoz has never broken his personal and professional ties with Dénia, he has given countless concerts and events in the city, he has participated in the Music Festival in the castle, in the Cantada de Habaneras in the port of Dénia and has collaborated with all those with whom he lived in those years.

In 2016 Dénia paid tribute to the singer-songwriter on the occasion of the presentation of the Notebook that Saó magazine, the oldest publication in the Valencian press and which was turning 40 that year, dedicated to the singer. A year later, the filà Templaris, during his Christian captaincy, organized a tribute dinner at El Viejo Montgó and Paco Muñoz. In 2018, the two fables from Dénia, Vent, Polvo y Púa and Daniya played together in the Parque de les Bassetes to pay tribute to him.

Paco Muñoz has a very special relationship with Denia and, by extension, with the Marina Alta. He has linked his image, his work and his emotions to the places and people of this city.

Due to this intimate link with the city of Dénia and its people, "he has become fully deserving of this honorary title, given his selfless collaboration in the cultural and social life of the city and the adoption of committed attitudes in the defense of our language and our culture”, as detailed in the explanatory memorandum of the Mayor's decree.

Artistic trajectory

Paco Muñoz began to act in the neighborhood associations of his hometown in 1975, interpreting songs by Aute, Llach or Serrat on the guitar. His official presentation took place at the Teatre Micalet on November 4, 1976. His first album, La libertad la picaron, appeared the following year with a prologue by Toni Mestre, co-author of the song's lyrics What's up Valencians?

In 1984 he made his debut before a children's audience at a theater festival in the Vivers Gardens in Valencia, which gave him the opportunity to become the only Valencian singer dedicated almost exclusively to children's songs. His children's production, praised by Joan Fuster, is compiled under the generic title of Paco Muñoz sings for children.

Since the mid-80s, most of his discography has been self-published under the PM Produccions label.

In subsequent decades, Paco Muñoz's musical activity was tireless, with numerous collaborations with other Valencian artists such as Ovidi Montllor, Lluís Miquel or the group Al Tall.

His career and the commitment he has always shown to his country and the Valencian language and culture have earned him numerous awards and tributes.
