Dénia inaugurates the Museu de la Mar in the rehabilitated fish market this Friday

13 June 2019 - 09: 35

This Friday, 14 in June, at the 20: 30 hours, Dénia will inaugurate one of the most emblematic cultural spaces in recent years. After its rehabilitation, the old fish market will open its doors, finally, as Museu del Mar. Next we reproduce a text signed by the municipal archaeologist, Josep Gisbert, about the sample that can be seen from then on.

The exhibition presents hundreds of archaeological pieces, ethnological objects and photographic resources from the collections of the Archaeological Museum of the City of Dénia and Ethnological museum from Dénia, institutions that were born in the 1957 and 1991 years, respectively.

The heritage objects, which now constitute certainly transcendent collections, come mostly from donations, legacies and deposits entered into the Dénia museums over the last 35 years by residents of the city and the Marina Alta, some of whom are no longer with us. They thought it was the best destination for an esteemed estate. After, in some cases, more than a quarter of a century in dark warehouses, in the care of the institutions, now they have the opportunity to weave a canvas and present a short but intense look at the history of the city and its link with the sea navigation, trade, activities, events and feats.

The audiovisual space will allow, if God wants, with a thoughtful programming, the presentation, in addition to the audiovisual resources, of thematic samples such as fishing, marine traditions, devotions, the progress of research in underwater archeology and all a series of blue mosaic chapters by Dénia & Mar.

Dénia's museums now have a window, in addition to overlooking the sea, near the sea and near the port and, with this, the opportunity to disseminate the history of its people and a maritime heritage that must be rescued from oblivion and that he cries for processes of assessment, conservation and diffusion.

We opened a path that we began, in terms of collection and recovery of artifacts, which has had the invaluable help of the legacy of citizens, more than three decades ago, as well as thematic exhibitions devoted to The port of Dénia. One hundred years & two millennia (1999), The King in Dénia (2004) y Chronicle of the expulsion of the Moriscos (2009), and that we now offer to the table and to the banquet of the culture more our own and singular.

A fact and an event that seals a wish fulfilled. A quarter of a century of desires fulfilled that, just now, crave signs of institutional will and processes of stability, so that, in a few months, we expect from the project, already reality, a level of participation and enjoyment by the general public, of the cultural tourism that yearns for these proposals, unpublished until now in the cultural and heritage infrastructures of Dénia.
