Dénia unveils the typical cuisine of the Marina Alta in Norway

05 September 2022 - 15: 19

This past weekend took place, in the Norwegian city of Bergen, the Matfestival, one of the most recognized gastronomic events in northern Europe and where Dénia made its city and the traditional gastronomy of the region known.

Saladuras, sausages and almonds have been distributed for two days at the Dénia stand. Cocas, traditional and innovative, have also had a prominent role in the central tasting tent. Dénia and Bergen have had close relations since both cities joined the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities of Gastronomy in 2015.

The representation of Dénia has been headed by the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, who at the official reception on Friday presented the mayor of Bergen, Rune Bakervik, with a ceramic plate and posidonia.

The Dénia stand distributed information brochures about the city and presented a sample of products grown or made in the Marina Alta and that are part of the Bancalet pilot experience: wines, honey, flour, liquors, rice, etc. In addition, daily tastings of traditional salts (moixama, tuna egg, dried octopus) and artisan sausages were made.

The good weather and the change in the location of the festival, which this year has been held for the first time in the center of Bergen, has favored a high influx of public. In front of the stand has been Mari Carmen Síscar, from Turisme Dénia.

On Saturday, the teacher of the María Ibars institute, Vicent Almela, and the student, Leonardo Landa, starred in a showcooking in the tasting tent of the festival focused on the elaboration of cocas. The 150 units produced were made and sold out.

In addition to those of salted meats and sausages, Almela surprised the attendees by making a sweet cake that fused the traditions of the two cities, with almond nougat and Bergen apples. The showcooking had a great response from the public, although its access was with a paid ticket.

Three other cities of the UNESCO Gastronomy Network have been present as guests at the Matfestival: Alba (Italy), Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal) and Rouen (France). The director of the Office of Innovation and
Creativity of Dénia, Floren Terrades, participated in a work meeting between the five cities that are part of the Network to reinforce contacts, exchange experiences and explore the possibility of organizing common activities.
