Dénia will create an itinerary with urban signs to get to know the Ruta del Fortí

August 03 from 2018 - 09: 16

The most important vestiges of the urban archeology of the Dénia andalusí of the XI and XII centuries, located in the route of the walls of the Forti, are listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). But the lack of information means that many people are unaware of its existence.

That is why the City of Dénia, through its department of archeology, will value this heritage through the implementation of nine interpretative totems along the route of Forti.

The goal, explained the municipal archaeologist, Josep Gisbertit's "explain the problems and archeology of the Daniya Raval, by means of a complete mapping sequence", responding to the demand for information from the many visitors and residents, as well as "premiering what is the I Phase of an Urban Archeology Itinerary Project". This phase, budgeted at 50.000 euros, has a grant from the Department of Tourism of the Generalitat of 22.500 euros (the 45%).

The itinerary will have nine monoliths, with anti-vandalism protection measures, triangular in shape and formed in turn by three rectangular panels in each one with different graphic contents in Valencian, Spanish and English. Other languages, such as French and German, will be included in thematic guides, as explained by the area councilor, Rafa Carrió, who has been very satisfied with the project, because "it helps us understand and value our important historical and cultural heritage".

Through the various photographs, 3D reconstructions, graphics, cartographies and plans, the total of 27 panels will allow the tourist to know how the topography, urbanism, the houses and some aspects of the daily life of the inhabitants of the old Raval de Madinat Daniya were, constituting an experimental model in tune with other urban remains. The signage network is expected to be installed before the end of the year.

I totally agree with Margarita's comment.
I think that in addition to keeping the ruins in good condition should be given an explanation about them. I am referring to the ruins that are at the beginning of the Saladar walk, which I believe were the remains of the old port of Dénia. I have not seen anything related to its history or what those ruins can be.

We hope that you have included the ongoing maintenance of archaeological sites in your Urban Archaeological Itinerary Project… for example the site on Avenida Joan Fuster (in front of building number 5) is a disgrace.
    Thanks for your attention.
