10 July 2020 - 13: 18

The City Council of Dénia has collaborated with the direction of the Natural Park Montgó in a research work to recover the place names of the mountain ravines.

In the research, toponymy books and ancient cartography have been consulted and the collaboration of Juanjo Ortuño, responsible for the urban planning cartographic archive of the City of Dénia and Ximo Bolufer, director of the Soler Blasco Museum of Jávea. As a result, the names of 94 ravines in the natural park have been identified.

The collaboration of the Dénia City Council in the initiative has also made it possible to label the 24 ravines on the north side of the mountain that cross the path of the Colonies and give it the characteristic meandering shape.

The signs are already in place, from the Peña del Águila ravine, the first one to the west, to the Gamell cave, the most easterly of this northern slope of the Montgó. The Councilor for Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, accompanied by the director of the Montgó Natural Park, Joseba Rodríguez, visited the area this week to see the finished and installed signage.
