Dénia seeks to reduce vehicle use by collaborating with car sharing applications

May 20 from 2021 - 12: 19

The Dénia City Council joins the Valencian start up Journify to promote sustainable and collaborative mobility in the city through the carpooling service, shared car, the app, and reduce the massive entry of private vehicles occupied by a single driver.

The adherence of the consistory to the Journify initiative allows users who participate in routes that have Dénia, la Xara and Jesús Pobre as their departure or arrival point to be exempt from the usual commissions of the service (between 10 and 15% of fares, which range between 7 and 9 cents per seat).

The initiative also incorporates the aspect of promoting local commerce through the distribution of points (4 per route), among users, exchangeable for discounts in the establishments of the city that are added. In the same app, these businesses adhered to the campaign can be consulted, so that they get a new platform for dissemination and advertising and without participating in the project entailing any expense. So far, a dozen shops in Dénia are already part of the list.

As the councilor explained Javier Scotto, of Citizen Protection, an area that includes mobility and transport matters, what differentiates Journify from other shared car applications is "its specific orientation to interlocal routes, from 15 km, the distances that in our region need to be covered by the lack of a public transport service with a periodicity that makes it functional for the day to day ".

Scotto also pointed out that this formula "regulates an already common practice, that of sharing a car between neighbors or acquaintances who have to travel to another town. The app wants to facilitate and expand those contacts; guarantee safety to users , since the routes are geolocated, and also offer rewards to people who bet on sustainable mobility ". "This proposal wants to alleviate the deficiencies of local public transport, which the citizens themselves have so far self-managed through shared car.

“If we can achieve more than 1.500 exit and entry routes in the municipality, as previous studies in our area consider, we will be achieving a very important reduction in the number of vehicles that circulate on our streets and, by discounting, a considerable reduction in pollution. ”, Added the mayor.

The collaboration of the Dénia City Council with Journify, which is part of the development strategy of the Dénia smart city project, also entails for the consistory the permanent and updated reception of data of interest for the management of mobility and environmental policies: number of users of the service, financial savings (estimated to be around € 2.000 per year for users who choose to share a car), reduction of CO de emissions (1,7 tons per person who shares a vehicle on a daily basis), among others.

How to start using Journify in Dénia, la Xara and Jesús Pobre

You just have to download the app for Android or iOS to your mobile and create a user profile. Depending on whether you are a passenger or a driver, you will have to search and select the route of another user of interest or publish a new route to find travel companions.

The app also includes information on the COVID-19 regulations which service users have to comply with.
