Dénia welcomes the presentation of a catalog that classifies more than 40 varieties of agricultural interest for farmers and consumers

25 September 2018 - 17: 22

The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development has chosen Dénia to present the Valencian catalog of traditional varieties of agricultural interest, a document that gathers 42 different autochthonous varieties available to farmers and consumers.

The CDT has been the scene of this presentation day, inaugurated by the Councilor Elena Cebrián, who explained that this catalog seeks, on the one hand, to offer information to the Valencian farmers for their cultivation, promoting their conservation in the field, and, on the other, to disclose and promote these varieties among consumers, remembering their properties and differentiated characteristics.

This catalog is presented as an open and participatory document, prepared by a commission in which groups of farmers, trade unions, universities, research centers, associations for the conservation of biodiversity and consumer associations are represented, among other organizations in the sector.

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has highlighted the importance of having chosen Dénia as the setting for this presentation, a show of support from the Consell to the project Denia&Marina Alta #TastingLife. Grimalt has highlighted the important role of agriculture for this plan of action, which "would not be possible without the protection of soil and land and the recovery of agriculture and everything that our ancestors did."

During the morning there have been talks and debates in the Cdt de Dénia. The first was a talk on the operation of the seed loan service, led by Josep Roselló, technician of the Service of ecological production, innovation and technology; followed by the talk "For a gastronomy rooted in the Mediterranean food culture committed to the territory, healthy, supportive and sustainable", offered by Josep Bernabeu, director of Gasterra UA-Dénia and an intervention on gastronomy and traditional varieties by the cook Pep Romany Then, a round table on new opportunities / new farmers was held and the day was closed with the interventions of the general director of Rural Development and PAC, Maite Chafer, and the general director of Natural Environment and Environmental Assessment, Antoni Marzo .

Likewise, during the whole morning a display of seasonal local varieties was installed in the lobby of the CdT of Dénia and, after the closing of the day, the participants were offered a tasting of dishes prepared with traditional varieties by the cook Sole Ballester
