From a busy street to a pedestrian oasis: the evolution of Plaza Valgamediós in Dénia through 4 photographs

12 March 2023 - 00: 20

The Valgamediós square in Dénia has undergone a spectacular transformation over the years, and these days it has taken a great leap into the future with the completion of the pedestrianization works. The differences are evident when these four photographs of the plaza at different moments in its history are compared.

In this old photo shared by himself Vicent Grimalt On their social networks, you can see adults walking and children playing, as well as a couple of cars stopped on the sidewalks. There is no asphalt and many buildings now present are missing, but it was already an important meeting point, which has been diluted over the years.

In the second photograph, much more recent (2020), you can see a square full of cars parked in the central area, and there is hardly any space for pedestrians.

In another image closer to our days, from the first version of the project, a small improvement can be seen in the pedestrian area in the center, but there is still asphalt in areas closed to traffic where vehicles slip through. When this work was completed, the result was highly criticized as it was not what had been promised, so a final phase was projected.

Now, with the completion of the second phase of the pedestrianization works, Valgamediós square has completely changed. The previous photographs no longer look anything like the new square, which is almost entirely a pedestrian space, although still without the parks, flower boxes and furniture that await the end of Fallas.

And what about the terrible circulation in Denia? Cars always badly parked, double parked, on the sidewalks and zebra crossings, poorly signposted streets, zebra crossings that are already erased and no one repaints, dirt everywhere, buildings in terrible condition that make the streets ugly, etc. Who is responsible for fixing all this? I believe that this council collects a lot of money for all kinds of taxes, for tourism, etc. As this continues, it will end up like Benidorm, at best.

Totally agree Carmen. Fewer and fewer people on the street and in the end we will drive people out of the cities and everyone to the shopping malls. In short, every day more Agenda 2030… what a disaster.

I don't think this is the channel for campaigning!

As for the works in the Plaza Valgamedios, that's what I say, dear God! what bad management and what zero planning and how it shows that the money does not come out of the pocket of those who spend it!!!
Will there be another reform before the elections???

Everything that is done is based on suppressing parking areas. Even if they put flowerpots, the lack of good trees is evident. We will see who votes for him in the next elections

Absolutely right trees shade with the summers we have is also essential to clean the atmosphere "green green I love you green" and benches to rest, Denia needs more trees everywhere

  4. Dani says:

    Wasted money.
Many of the works that are done are admired by no one.
In many cities pedestrian streets are lacking.
In Denia there is a need for services.
From the People's Party we urge the rational use of public space, the implementation of a minimum bus service for the towns surrounding the Marina and the immediate adaptation of the Bus Station.
We also ask for the start-up of a "Municipal Cinema" to be able to supply this neighborhood demand.
The Cinema will be free for those registered and will cost €2 for visitors from other towns.
    Solutions.
