The CEDIVA of the Hospital de Dénia is certified to carry out training courses and programs

23 July 2019 - 13: 12

The Spanish Society of Pain Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Therapeutics has certified the Training Center for Difficult Airways, CEDIVA, as an advanced medical simulation center for training courses and programs.

The CEDIVA, integrated into the Hospital de Dénia and directed by Dr. Francisca Llobell, it is a center specialized in Vía Aérea Difícil, which trains specialists from all over Spain in its management.

The objective is to increase the safety of the patient who has to have an intubation, improving the variables involved in the procedure:

  • Define each of the techniques
  • Choose the best device
  • To share the recommendations of the scientific communities, which are the Protocols and Algorithms of action

The Difficult Airway Alert

Anesthesiologists at the Hospital of Dénia have defined the Difficult Airway Process, which includes a record and alert in the Electronic Medical Record –HCE- of the patient with suspected intubation difficulties.

From the consultation, in the pre-operative one, the anesthesiologist carries out the prediction tests of Difficult Airway. If the prediction is positive, the physician sends an "alert" to Surgical Admission. This department, in turn, is responsible for maintaining the "alert" when the patient is scheduled for intervention.

According to the director of the CEDIVA Group and anesthesiologist at the Hospital de Dénia, Dr. Francisca Llobell, “This prior and automatic information is very important, since the patient wins in safety because, any day, he can arrive at the Emergency Department and his difficulty for intubation is recorded in his Electronic Medical Record”.
