Les Roques neighborhood

It is without a doubt one of the purest neighborhoods in the city of Dénia, which despite the passing of the years continues to maintain the essence of that Arab Dénia whose citizens lived around the Castle.

The physiognomy of the neighborhood of Les Roques stands out for its low-rise houses, its steep streets and the access to the main museum of the city, emblem of our history: the Castle of Dénia.

History

The present district of Les Roques formed part of the walls of the Castle, the Raval ground. He was part of the Medina, prior to the Christian conquest of S.XIII Arab city.

In the year 1297, after the conquest, King Jaime II sent the entire city to the interior of the castle and its surroundings, forming what is known as the "Vila Vella" and ensuring the defense and reinforcement of the city as a bastion military.

The streets of Barrio Les Roques retain some of that history they lived, like their neighbors, which maintain the traditional essence of Dénia where neighbors share the afternoon sitting on the street, that Dénia in which everyone knows everyone else and where it is not easy to go unnoticed.
