Barriers of posidonia to stop the erosion of the beaches of Dénia

November 18 from 2017 - 00: 22

During this month of November, the City Council of Dénia has begun to "build" posidonia dams in different beaches of the municipality in order to stop erosion and prevent storms from swallowing the sand.

The municipal decision is based on making management more sustainable and getting deposited a greater number of sediments that contribute to having more dry beach for the next season and avoid the action of storms, pointed the councilor for Environment and Climate Change , Josep Crespo. This criterion is a recognized and highly valued environmental action, which is even recommended from the protocol of Blue Flags, whose candidatures are being prepared for the next season.

It has acted in the Marineta Beach Cassiana, where this algae barrier was installed last year achieving a 20% increase in dry beach, and in some areas of the beach of Marines where there are erosive sections such as the Blay Beach and the apartments Madrimar (Mussola street).

This method of stopping beach erosion will be extended to the regressing sections located north of Punta Beach. Molins.

Posidonia barriers will remain until next March.

There is something I do not understand, what does it mean to increase the dry sand ?, with the barrier of seaweed I understand that the force of the sea is diminished, but if they are natural beaches they must have the amount of dry sand and wet sand that proceeds according to the tides

They could take advantage and take a couple of trucks of fresh / new / loose sand so that it mixes with the old / rotten sand ... let's see if little by little Marineta Casiana is turning into a real beach because now it seems that oil is going to come out .

The truth is that it looked like a pigsty rather than a beach. Hopefully now it improves.
