This has been the 2022 of Dénia: a month-by-month review of its great events

31 December 2022 - 09: 00

A new year ends and, as usual, from Dénia.com we want to review what we have experienced this last year, which has not been little. A review month by month to remember the great events of 2022.

January

The year began in the usual way. The first great event took place: the Kings Parade. Of course, light because the coronavirus hit the city again.

Good news arrived during that first month. Dénia became the scene of the first video clip of Cause, the latest album by Xavi Sarrià that has collected so many awards this year. The artist Tardor also put the city on the map for professionals and amateurs of urban art by cast one of his works among the 10 best in the world.

It was also the month in which we learned about the enormous growth that Dénia had suffered throughout 2021, being one of the 5 cities that did the most that year in the entire province. But there were also hard images, like the macro-operation to evict La Siesta.

February

February began with the news that shook the entire construction sector, putting the companies dedicated to it against the ropes: Justice declared the NUT null and void. This dragged several months of actions trying to solve the lack of regulations to build, giving more haste to the elaboration of the PGE which is still pending approval. Since this month and this news, the situation has changed little.

They were days of reunions. A new regularization of the municipal ordinances made caravan tourism will stop considering Dénia a black spot, coming en masse to our city. However, this created friction that forced a rethinking of the regulations to avoid "anything goes".

Another much talked about reunion was that of Andrés Tabernero and the command of the Local Police de Dénia, taking again the leadership of the body after the resignation of José Martínez Espasa. A reconciliation that culminated a few days ago the tribute that he received during the day of the Local Police of Dénia.

And, finally, the most anticipated reunion by the majority of Dianenses, that of the town with the party. The low incidence of COVID made it possible to recover festive events as we had known them until the pandemic, and the first to be held was precisely the last to be held before the arrival of the coronavirus: the Mig Any of Moors and Christians. The filaes took to the streets to celebrate everything pending for so long.

March

March is a month linked to a party, and this year it was finally possible to celebrate. The Fallas were planted again in the different districts of Dénia after spending two years locked up in warehouses. And when the recovered party was already celebrated normally, the rain was about to dampen the illusions of the falleros and falleras. However, she was finally permissive and Dénia vibrated again with music, gunpowder and ninots.

Gastronomy was another of the protagonists of the month, giving us great news. To begin with, Dénia achieved a new Sol Repsol that was awarded to the Aticcook restaurant by Bruno Ruiz. Besides, Quique Dacosta obtained the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. Nothing bad.

April

With some funny anecdote we start April, like the nice mistake when painting a traffic sign on a road that went very viral on social networks, which was nevertheless corrected in a few hours.

We live exciting stories, like that of the steamroller restored over generations of students and which reached the Bosc de Diana on its own foot, where it is now on display. We had visits from celebrities who boasted about Dénia, such as that of the pianist James Rhodes. And finally we were able to see each other's faces again the end of the obligation to wear masks.

But the news that caused the most impact was not expected by anyone: Red Cross decided not to submit to the tender to take over the surveillance of the beaches of Dénia. It was something that caught everyone by surprise since the NGO has always been in charge of providing the service and it was only for two years that they lost it due to an error made in the budget. However, they were not expected to make the decision directly not to apply for the contract.

May

It seems that we had a monthly joy in terms of gastronomy. We start May with the news that the chef from Dianense, based in Washington, Danny Lledó, revalidated its Michelin star with the Xiquet restaurant. Another gastronomic news, rather curious, was that one of the restaurants in Dénia offered a 4.000-euro menu inspired by The Last Supper. This is none other than, of course, the Quique Dacosta.

In May an ambitious project of the Castle for, among other things, open your door to Baix la Mar. It was also announced that they would repeat our beaches with their Blue Flags.

And finally there was a relief in the fallas charges, being able to finally meet those who will be Falleras Mayores de Dénia after the Fallas longest in history.

Dénia also went viral again, this time for the daring bath of two individuals, as they came into the world, in the nothing subtle fountain of the roundabout at the entrance.

June

In June a new controversy broke out and became the soap opera of the summer: that of the tram from Denia to Gandia. And Dénia took over the newscasts for the arrest of the assailants to the house of PSG footballer Marco Verratti.

Month of unexpected announcements, such as the project for turn the Portland factory into a hotel. Also, of difficult coexistences, as that of the residents of many neighborhoods with some especially scandalous seagulls. And month of bonfires of Sant Joan, but without bonfires. The first June 23 without fire, and it seems that it will always be like that.

July

They returned the Parties Dénia. Thousands of people were able to meet again with the Festivities of the Santíssima Sang, which had a schedule that matched the long-awaited return and which received unprecedented reception.

They were accompanied by the usual controversy over the celebration of the Bous a la Mar, more bumpy than usualAlso with fewer viewers supporting him and with the magnifying glass on two international animal organizations that denounced the alleged mistreatment suffered by animals in these events.

August

The hot August, especially this one due to the historical temperatures that were reached. Month of beach bars Especially the month of one of them, which managed to appear on the Forbes list as one of the best in all of Spain.

Another long-awaited great reunion, that of the main festival of the Moors and Christians. Although they came out in February at Mig Any, this time the filaes were able to show off their best clothes in the main acts of the celebration.

To remember, it was one of the most massive concerts in the history of the Música al Castell festival. Kiko Veneno managed to fill the castle playing his many hits in a memorable concert.

September

The end of August brought great news: Dénia had a soccer world champion. It was Fiamma Benítez, who soon returned to the city, already in September, to celebrate with all the neighbors and tell about his unforgettable experience.

Shortly after, it was time for the little ones to meet again with their teachers and They will return to their classes in an almost full normality. Meanwhile, the security forces were on the ropes due to the escalation of violence that was originating at night in Dénia and that forced the City Council to consider drastic measures that affected nightlife.

October

Another month of reunions. Another month of gastronomic news. ohThe D*na Festival is back! The success, as expected, was resounding. Like the Nou d'Octubre this year, which culminated in a massive concert by La Fúmiga full of families.

More reunions? The Fira de Tots Sants that again filled with light, although less music this time, Torrecremada. And more? The Halloween with more success than can be remembered, causing the Tunnel of Terror a kilometer queue in the center of Dénia.

Undoubtedly the month with the most events, and the greatest variety of offers, which were joined by one that is here to stay and to become one of the main attractions in the city: the Denia Festival of the Humanities.

November

November did not stand out for having a large number of events, but one of them was probably the most outstanding of the year. A train used the Dénia tracks again. The service is still inoperative, but the tests continue and we have almost normalized the presence of a train in our city again. Now, we will not be able to use it until the beginning of 2023.

Another milestone in November was that it served to revalidate the 4 Michelin stars that Dénia has, and add a new restaurant in the city among those recommended by the inspectors of the prestigious guide.

December

And we come to this month, so recent that it is hardly necessary to remember what we have experienced. However, we can highlight two stories. The first one, more than a story, was an alarm that was generated when seeing the newly released train crashed into a car. Luckily everything was part of a drill, which did not prevent an image to be remembered with the spectacular display of media that there were.

The second, more exciting story, that of the surgeon from Dénia who, with the help of his daughter, managed to make his voice and art known among thousands of TikTok users.

The rest of the month you already know. The Christmas invaded the city, beginning with the Mercat de Nadal and Nit de la Llum.

What will 2023 bring?
