The Royal Spanish Sailing Federation is considering the possibility of assigning one of the four Olympic places to the Valencian kitesurfer Álex Climent who plays at the Marina El Portet Sports Club in Dénia. This has been confirmed by the Olympic coach, Manu Sanz, after the pre-Olympic rally held in Santander from 11 to 18 in October.
Although the Valencian could not attend due to agenda problems, his projection is so evident that it is one of the first names to take into account and, therefore, could be one of the athletes that would make up the Olympic men's team of this sport modality.
It should be remembered that it has not yet been officially announced that the Kite Formula is an Olympic discipline for the Paris Games 2024. However, the Spanish Sailing Federation has assumed that it will be and continues to work in this line. Proof of this is the concentration of Santander attended by Manu Sanz, a native of Moraira and resident in Dénia, and the youth dianense Kiko Peiró.
Kiko Peiró, member of the Marina El Portet CD, cannot let his guard down if he aspires to fill the only vacancy for youth. In the opinion of Olympic coach Manu Sanz, “Kiko has many ballots to get the assignment, but she must work hard”.
Similarly, another Marina El Portet athlete, Sebastián Ducos also chooses to cover the available gap.
The two youths have already set their sights on the Spanish Kite Formula Cup which will be in February in Alicante and in the Spanish Championship that will take place in Murcia in the month of March. Both tests will be decisive when assigning the place for youth.
The Olympic mode of Formula Kite will have a male and a female team, and in total there will be eight competitors who will attend the Olympic games. Manu Sanz held a meeting in Santander with the president of the National Federation, Julia Casanueva, and the preparation directors Santi López and Carlos Paz, in which, among other matters, it was agreed that there would be two places in absolute category: one of them It is the one that is probably assigned to Álex Climent, one for youth and another that will be offered under technical criteria for the athlete who, due to his characteristics, deserves to be in the Olympic team.
The next pre-Olympic preparatory event will take place on November 12, also in Santander, and it is planned to travel again Kiko Peiró, Manu Sanz, together with Sebastián Ducos and Álex Climent.
The director of Marina El Portet, Luis Mira, trusts that the athletes of the club prove their worth and make a place to be in the Olympic team. "We have bet a lot on Kite Surf and our athletes are in good shape so we support them and we want them to go far", Mira commented.
